Hi everyone,
is it possible to check if the steering wheel has capacitive sensors without deinstalling it? I upgraded my ID.4 Pro (build 06-2021) with travel assist but I am not sure if I can activate the KLR - I understood that this would make it unnecessary to force the steering wheel every 15s.
Thanks

It gives you lot of errors even on dashboard if it is coded wrong. If you happen to have capacitive steering wheel but if the coding option is set to "not installed" it gives you errors. It is not like they have installed those capacitive steering wheels on cars but features are just disabled by coding. There is also tiny hole at the back of steering wheel facing towards column. If you turn your steering wheel it gets just visible. You have necessary electrics module installed if you can't put stick there more than 5mm deep. If you can, then you don't have the module and most likely capacitive coils either. This all has been discussed in this thread earlier and you can even find pics describing all this also.

Please need support. I have purchased new wheel with capacitive sensor on it. And got it installed and coded it by reading given instructions in this page ( 00 06 30 2E 17 91 00 64 16 24 20 00 00 . Now the travel assist button is on, but there is fault and massage in orange color says travel assist not available. Can you please refer to below pictures and tell me what to do next. Note. I have driven the car on highway expecting the car will recognize the lines. But nothing happened.

As mentioned before in this topic: you have to change coding of module 13(adaptive cruise control) also. There is bit/option "capacitive steering wheel". Change that from "not installed" to "installed". There is also a bit/option "travel_assist", but I think it ain't necessary to change for travel assist to work.

Should work like that! At least it works on European variants!

Should work like that! At least it works on ]Ok on back of steering it has cable socket. But no pins so it means that capacitive sensor is not giving feed back. That's the reason of error. I was thinking it's for heater. But I think I was wrong.

Thanks Yes. I found it in my Skoda enyaq, and it’s probably the same in the IDs. Look in the live data of module 19 Gateway and search for Steering Wheel touch Recognition, status.

I can confirm that this works after 3.0 OTA also. At least TA activation, unsure about capacitive steering wheel, since I dont have one.
TA works differently with 3.0. You choose from the TA button if you want to run TA or ACC. When ever you push set, it activates directly either TA or ACC based on your selection.

The only way to get rid of the multiple installation error is with ODIS.According to a person with avatar andykoe who knows a lot about this forum stuff.
passat b8
Does this error got fixed over time? Im getting a capacitve steering wheel retro fitted. Do you still like the retro fitted wheel or does it has downsides

The error stays but it doesn't affect anything. Only hassle has been with 2.4. update which reseted all mods and also parametrization of wheel which resulted error codes and the dealer didn't really understand what was all about. 3.0.0 ota had no problems at all.
I think capacitive wheel is worth it! And travel assist with it is very good. Way better than tesla autopilot as you can just lightly keep your hand on the wheel and car drives without nagging. By holding wheel firmly you can teach the car the position on lane where you like it to drive(for example near edge of lane as the very center is usually more worn here due winter tires).

Thanks for your answer. Where is this error visible?

It is only one of many error codes the car gathers. If I remember correctly it is on gateway module error log. So it is no way visible for the driver. You only see it if you read the error codes by obd reader.

I’m a little bit lost with all the code depending on id3 id4 and so on. Just have my new id4 pro version in France normally the documentation say capacitive steering wheel so… Other problem I’m on 3.0 version and I read that only one change is mandatory so what I have to do ? Only A5 or stg13 ? Thanks in advance
Mencey seem to be the expert for that…

If the capacitive steering wheel is already configured on the STG13, you should only change A5

You must activate ACC ( Set or Res) at first then press TA button.

Hello,
I own an ID.3 1st Plus with v2.4 software and I could successfully activated the TA.
I just tried it only on a very short drive, sometime I went a bit close to the side and seemed like it took a bit sharp turns sometimes, maybe some more practice is needed. 🙂
I’m not sure whether I’ve got capacitive steering wheel or not, and apart from coding the “A5” I don’t know whether other modifications are necessary to make it more smooth or precise?!
You can see my settings and my questions below:
My factory setting of “A5” control unit:
00 08 30 2E 15 11 08 E0 06 24 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
After coding the “A5” control unit for the TA:
00 08 30 2E 15 01 10 E4 16 24 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
In my case I just replaced 11 08 E0 06 with 01 10 E4 16.
I did not touch anything else, and my current “A5” settings are:
KLR: not coded - question: should it be modified to coded?
Ea variant: ea_variant 2 Hc variant: hc_variant 2 Hc point of intervention: early via menu
I also did not modify the “13” control unit, and current settings are:
Capsitive steering wheel: not installed - question: should it be modified to installed?
Travel assist: deactivated. - question: should it be modified to activated?
Thanks and regards

Hell guys Life pro version of id3 I used the below code and successfully enabled Travel assist. STG A5 TA mit VZE 00 08 30 2A 15 01 10 E4 16 24 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Thing is. I am almost sure that my steering wheel is capacitive. Why? If i dont touch the steering wheel (which is leather and heated)for a long time, while i am on lane assist and i get the ping pong effect, it will warn me to touch the steering. When i simply touch it, the message goes away.
However in travel assist i have to make a small steering wheel adjustment every 15 seconds for the car to understand that i am there. Maybe i have to make adjustment on the stg13 also?

Yes, I have! And friend of mine has same story. Ota3.0 with capacitive wheel retrofitted with no problems.
