This is
not a FORMAL SUPPORT SITE its a site that is provided by OBD11 for users to help each other with information / links / help using the tool on the cars and as with the application itself all changes made as a result of coding and or conversation are made at
your own risk.
What does the activation code belong to.Activation code enables your account, you can then log into your account via any android device (Phone, Tablet, Car Android Device etc)
You can only use the activation code once, you cant transfer it to another account.
OBD11 OverviewThis is currently an Android device only.
A lot of the coding values are in German this is nothing to do with OBD11 its how VAG coded it the benefit of this is that other major coding devices will also use the same values.
All of the changes you make to your car are stored on line so you are able to connect to your account via multiple devices and still see all of your cars.
The information is stored against the VIN number of your motor and also your account, so although somebody else could enter you vin number into OBD11 they would not see the history or your details.
You can store multiple cars in your garage.
The application needs a strong internet connection (Data or Wifi is fine) and the correct or higher version of BlueTooth (please pair device to make it quicker) in order to work . Please note if you cant connect just double check that the internet is still working.
OBD11 has two main functions
How does the app get updated
The app will automatically updated from Google store, you will get a notification that new version is available and download it.
There is also a Beta Testing version, if you wish to be part of the beta testing team then click here for registration and you will be added to team and get the latest beta versions which are more frequent but obviously you have to remember they are BETA not full Production.
YOU CANT USE OBD11 To remove component protection --- it can only be done with VAG Group software
YOU CANT USE OBD11 To map your engine -- This needs specialist software.
Connection Issues
As with any tech for the phone to connect to the OBD11 Dongle (and no you cant use any other dongle) you need to have the correct or newer version of Bluetooth installed and the Dongle lights need to be on and flashing.
Issues we have seen:
On newer cars it is possible to set the car bluetooth settings to hidden, when this is done it appears to hide the OBD11 port as well.
No Internet connection or Weak / Lost connection, if you dont have wifi or data turned on it wont work but does not give an error message, also if you loose your internet connection this also causes issues but with no feedback (issue has been raised)
Not able to download via google play you can download the apk from here : obdeleven.com/application/OBDeleven.apk but please note due to licensing some countries cant buy the dongle.
Your login details stop working and you loose credits and cars.
This is normally because you have either entered the incorrect email / facebook account details or more recently because the details are case sensitive if you entered you email address with the first letter being upper case then you must do this going forward otherwise you wont be logged in.
trying to run OBD11 on an PC using Bluestacks - You can install and run the app but you will not be able to connect to the dongle via bluetooth, check out this
thread for solutions
Common Issues with the applicationTrying to log into Adaptions but it does not work, This can be caused due to app data in Android, Go into your phone settings /apps/obd11 and clear the app data - thanks to
vwjapand thanks to RoboS2
obdeleven.proboards.com/post/10773 it can also be an issue with the Bluetooth app so again you can clear the data/cache as well.
Apps
When you first start using the application you will most likely be using the Apps that are shown on the relevant car section, The Apps are simply a pre programmed item that you buy for Credits and it does all the changes required to turn on or off a function
Please note from time to time people do have issues with the apps not working (either with an error message like not supported or it works but not changes are made). The issue is that for each model of car there are many different setups and optional items added to a car and its very difficult to get a single app to work on all cars. As you get 6 free credits a day it does not take long to get these back and the History function will show you what has been changed via APP.
If there is a bug in an app and ADMIN fixes it for you to refresh your list do the following
To update apps list go to apps > go back to my car > go to apps again
I have no relationship with the Dev team but I can confirm they are still doing a lot of development work on this application so if you want new stuff added please update the Request section.
UDS and Non UDS Control Unit
In simple terms its a different communication protocol and on older cars you will see non uds and on newer models it will have more UDS items, Hence when you look in
apps usage section you will see two different sections for both UDS and Non UDS modules. You should also bear this in mind when looking at Youtube video's as they often show the UDS car setup which when you look at your car you wont be able to follow.
Running a ScanOnce you have connected your Android device to the car the first thing the app shows you is the Scan Button, If you click on this the application will run through all your cars control units and report on any errors that it finds. As stated above if there are any faults/errors shown then the control unit number is shown in Red otherwise its green.
There are faults that are shown on your dashboard but inside the cars system there are lots of other errors that are stored but not shown via a dashboard light.
Some typical issues could be light Bulb circuit is showing a problem, You have enabled a function your car does not have the sensors for (In my case i activated blindspot warning but did not have side sensors) etc etc, if you look at the Fault section of the Module and click on it then it will do a google search to try and find and answer as to why and what to do.
From the fault section some of the errors can be deleted but some cant -
will do a more detailed look at this subject later
Some people have issues when running a scan and it does not complete, this can be caused by lots of different things
1/ Because there is an aftermarket item (radio in the case i saw) installed causing issues with the electrics
2/ Phone memory not being happy.
The normal things to do to help resolve this is to clear the cache and or the data and try again.
Phones are just mini computers and get tired and need a re boot sometimes, if you are having issues either connection or running a scan then turn phone off for a few moments and restart.
Some people have also pointed out that if you have your phone connected to cars radio system (or other bluetooth device) and at the same time trying to connect or run a scan it can cause issues.
3/ We have also seen people find it works better if all the devices on the car are turned off (eg turn ignition on but lights, radio, usb items are all disconnected.
Have you run a backup yet - if Not do soFirst thing in this section as soon as you get your OBD11 up and running please please do a backup of all the modules
The reason to do this, in your history is stored all the changes you have made and the current setup, It is always very helpful to have how your car started on file so that if need be you can revert back to that state very easily.
If you make any changes to your car via the infotainment (MMI) Screens you wont see this in the History because they were not made using OBD11, However if like me you take regular backups and compare them you will see the changes, For example the setting for Volume can be in Litres or Gallons, If you change it on the screen nothing in history but your backupfile will have changed so you can see its been updated.
Good place to find backup files for your car is on the Seat Spanish Forum here
drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-nF6uppzDHYcXAwUmNmbUtDYXc These are backup files with no changes so if you ever got in a real mess or needed to set it back to stock you could use these files if you have not done your own backup.
What is the credit system all about
Each day you log into OBD11 you can get up to 6 free credits (watch a few 30 second adverts) and these credits can be used to purchase Apps that make changes on your behalf with no knowledge of the system needed. You can additionally buy more credits if needed but most people quickly get the hang of the app and don't use them very much
Make sure you have your ad blocker turned off otherwise you wont see the adverts and get the extra credits.
How does the app get updatedThe app will automatically updated from Google store, you will get a notification that new version is available and download it.
There is also a Beta Testing version, if you wish to be part of the beta testing team then click
here for registration and you will be added to team and get the latest beta versions which are more frequent but obviously you have to remember they are BETA not full Production.
What if I change something and there is a problem.

Things can and do go wrong but make sure you have backups and don't rush into trying to fix what has gone wrong. Ask questions on the car and obd forums and people will help you.
The application sometimes tells you that you have and issue, just follow the instructions in this guide to clear the app and bluetooth cache and check out your history to see what you changed and change it back.
Issues I have seen personally have been my main radio screen going all strange colours, still working but not able to be used. This was a fault on the Seat where they saved money on the screen and when its cold the touch screen stops working - just so happened when i was doing some coding late at night.
Another user saying he had killed his car - down to a battery going flat, this seems to happen more on cars without stop start as they dont have the stronger batteries. However what the user saw was flashing lights and warnings like an alien landing.
Golden rule, if you don't fully understand what you are doing ask and check, be careful around brakes, make sure you know what you are doing before you make changes.
How do I read the instructions
WARNING WARNING, Make sure when you are coding that you have the correct car codes, for example on the Golf and Leon the Pre and Post facelift cars have different setups and the coding is therefore different. Just double check before you start and if making lots of changes do them one at a time and check all the changes still work.
Otherwise you may have lots of changes to undo before moving on
and yes I have done it to.
Once you get used to it its very simple, so the following are two example's
As a new user its much easier to use the adaptions to make changes (see below) because everything is in clear text whilst the long coding can look like a foreign language.
Examples
AdaptionsLong Coding
Why does the app ask me for a security code
This is the way that VW have set it up, you will notice that when a code is required the application will give you the code it thinks you need, if there is ore than one then it will show multiple codes.
What changes can i see in the History sectionWhen you look at the History section you can see all the changes that have been made. However you can filter to see individual types (like for example Apps)

More detail in the link below.
Can I change how the app looks on my phone:Simple answer is yes to some things, If you go to the Settings screen of the main menu you can change both application and database language to suit yourself
You can also make changes to the Home Screen (see the list in Settings)
If you go to the garage you can change the picture of your car / cars, you can change the Engine Code and add all the equipment your car came with.
US / North American and Japanese Car setup can be different to rest of the worldPlease note that there are a number of different setup issues for these cars to the rest of the world, Lights and indicators are often setup in a different way to European Cars, We see this issue mostly with the GOLF range but does apply to other cars as well as the local laws require a different setup.
I have seen a video that does stuff i want but the screens are different.
There are a number of reasons why youtube videos can show different screens to the one you have on your car.
1/ Older Cars (pre 2012) have a different setup to the new versions so what you often see is correct but not for your year model.
2/ Different cars (eg Audi, VW, Seat, Skoda) and different models do share a lot the same info but have different settings, for example seat controls, door colors, screen setup can all be different across the range of marques and models.
3/ Location as above different parts of the world have different local rules and car setup is therefore different accordingly.
4/ Long Coding does not work - on newer style Central electrics modules on mk7s / Leon (post mid MY16) report a zero-string on their coding - this is normal. All of the old "software-switches" that were in the code-string are now in adaptations on the newer modules
PasswordsWhen you first get your OBD11 Device you have to set a device password (6 Characters Long) as well as an account password, please ensure you keep these safe because if you have to return the dongle it slows down the replacement process if you cant give the device password.
Common questions across the range:Question | Answer
|
Can I change Stop Start to default to Off
| Only Via hardware fitted to allow this to happen.
|
Can I enable functions that i dont have required hardware for (eg Light Sensors, Camera's or Radar for example)
| No, you may have the settings in your setup but it wont work and you will get error message
|
If I make changes to my car using any of these tools can it invalidate my warranty
| Short answer is yes but it all you have to do is reverse the changes (using history) so that it is not obvious to garage that you have made a change.
|
Can I use OBD11 on an android head unit in my car
| Current answer is no as the screens are designed to work on Portait device and not landscape one web site shows OBDeleven application works with phones and tablets with Android version 4.1 and later.
|
Can I enable the sports menu or other SWAP function on my car using OBD11
Can i update modules
| No all SWAP Functions need to be enabled by a Dealer using VAG Software.
No modules code cant be updated with vcds or obd11
|
Can I re use my activation code
| Simple answer is no, once you have applied the activation code to your account it is no longer usable. Something we do see is people putting in incorrect log in details (Upper Case / Lower case not the same as when the set up the account that cause your account not to work as expected.
|
Coding I have I cant find on my car
| From MY16 VAG Changed the setup of the cars so a lot of the pre facelift mods do not work on the facelift cars.
|
Why does the coding for Lap timer work on my car, Why cant I display the gear i am in on screen Why cant i set my screen display to Carbon etc
| Certainly for Golf and Leon not all the screen modules support all of these functions even though you can see the coding values it does not work simply because the Screen is not setup for it. Also some of the screens are black and white and therefore don't support the Carbon Background.
|
Dont get to see adverts and get the extra free credits
| If you have an ad blocker installed please turn if off.
|
Boost Pressure is to high.
| VW's modules have always measured "absolute" pressure - which includes atmospheric pressure (thanks to DV52)
|
Firmware update
| if you are a beta tester and want to revert to normal You can get back to older version and older firmware will be flashed.
It is not possible to flash VW Firmware updates using obd11
|
Needle Sweep
| On some cars this works all the time on others it appears to be hit and miss (it does work but not 100% of the time). In my opinion this is VAG Hardware issue and nothing to do with coding, my car came with it as stock and I can make it not work by doing things to quickly. Not an OBD11 Issue.
|
APP Language
| If you want the app to be in German (for example) you must change both APP and Database Language settings otherwise when you look at Adaptions they will still be in English. However please note Apps and guages are still in English only.

08/01/2018 | Audi A3 etron.
| I had that happen to my etron when I first got my obdeleven and did an adaptation in the 5f module. There are two menus adaptation list, one for basic and another for advanced, where the advanced version of the menu repeats all the items the basic one has and then adds on a few others. It's akin to using a deprecated API, and on a newer car it clears all the options that don't exist on the older API. It took me many tries in the adaptation menu to get the charging and aux heat MMI menus back. If it helps I'm happy to look up the exact menu names in the car tomorrow. In the meantime just stay away from the basic version of the feature adaptation menu with the etron.

| owner of Skoda SuperB 1.4 TSI 2016 and Audi A6 2.4 2004 both stated if they left the dongle in overnight that the battery went flat, however on my Seat Cupra 2014 it was not an issue. At this time it feels like cars with stop start function have stronger batteries and dont suffer, cars without it suffer with drain. To be safe please ensure you remove your dongle and pay attention to the warning the app gives you

| Audi
| According to some posts Audi have now changed the setup of the VIM on 2018 models so that you cant turn it on. If you use the App you will see there is a warning about this (because the app cost 100 credits) but it appears that its not an obvious warning so people miss / ignore it. Make sure you are aware if you can make this change to your car read the notes on apps fully.

| Latest release 0.9.3.1 has caused a number of issues wit communication, mainly connected to non MQB cars (Non and Facelift models seem to work fine). It should also be noted a number of people have found doing app data clear helpful in resolving these issues.

| 1993 VW there is a problem with the Engine module. Prior to 0933 there was a static fault for the SAI system in the Engine module. This fault was present for a long time because it is very difficult to diagnose. After upgrading from 0932 to 0933 this fault was no longer displayed on the OBD11 app. The same thing is happening with 0934. No fault is present for the SAI system.
