Hello,
I bought a used 2015 mk7 GTi back in 2016, I started noticing that every so often the steering would get really heavy and didn't feel right, no warning lights would come on. So i did a little research and it seemed that it could have been the Steering angle sensor, which is part of the steering module for my car. I took it to a VW dealer and they recommend that i not only replace the steering module but also the rack and the harness. After the work was done i could tell immediately that the steering felt better and the problem went away for over a year. Now it is happening almost every time I drive, but now i'm getting a bunch of warning lights on my dash, ABS, Tire Pressure, Steering and ESP. Sometimes while i'm driving the lights go off and steering goes back to normal, other times i have to turn my car off and restart again. I just purchased the OBD11 pro tool and found out that you can perform a Steering angle calibration. So i guess i have a few questions.
1. If I replaced the rack, steering module and harness and everything was fine for over a year what could be going on?
2. I want to perform the Steering angle calibration with the OBD11, does my car need to be running to do this?
Thanks for any help!

Have you checked your battery voltage?

Hey thanks VWJAP for the heads up on the battery, I went to autozone and had the battery, starter and alternator tested. The battery results came back as
voltage: 12.68
measured: 410 a(din) rated: 540 a (din)
and the drain test: 2.58a SUSPECT
But while the car was running everything seemed fine, so how could this effect the steering angle sensor?
thanks again

Their all electrical sensors that feed voltages to computers, and if the voltage is low it can give miss reading to the computers giving errors and over composating things that work off the sensors, but if your battery is ok then it isn’t that, If there’s a drain on your battery then that could be a broken component still working when it shouldn’t be
Dunno how you check the capacity tho but if it’s meant to be 540a and it’s down to 410a then that 130a down which is roughly 20% down

So i guess i should first just get a new battery and see if that fixes things before i try and troubleshoot anything else first. Thanks for the info! Also would you happen to know if i wanted to run the steering angle calibration from OBD11, should the car be running or just the key in the ignition?
thanks again.

^ and i'm not 100% sure if this is the correct way to do it and don't want to make things worst. If anyone knows anything about this, can you please respond.
thanks again
