Did you buy the same type of battery?

If you just replaced like for like then go into gateway module then find Battery adaptation: Rated battery capacity: 68 Ah Battery manufacturer: JCB Battery serial number: 1111111111 Battery technology: Fleece
Just change the serial number (doesn’t matter what number you put in as long as it’s different (just add 1 if you want))
If you’ve changed your battery type then you’d have to change the technology one too

@wgolfmk7 you are most welcome, both myself and vwjap are here to try and share our knowledge with other users.

As you see from my settings, your settings are the same as from the factory, so I’d say it never had a new battery or someone never changed the settings to the new battery

Hi, I have Sharan from 2011. I try coding battery, but I can not find the menu battery adaptation. In gateway 19 adaptation I must to set channel, but not easy menu as on your printscreen. Thank you for your help.

Does anyone know, definitively, whether the correct value for an AGM battery is "Fleece" of "Binary-AGM". There seems to be a mix of unsubstantiated opinions in a few threads. Some suggest that Fleece is "German" for the type of matting in an AGM. I'm not sure that this is right. EFB battery technology has a "polyfleece" between the lead plates. An AGM battery has glass fibre mat and it's not clear why that would be called "fleece". I've just installed a Varta AGM as a replacement for a Molle EFB, and I set the the Battery Technology adaptation value as "Binary-AGM", but the "Binary" bit of that phrase has me a little concerned as to whether this is correct or not. Does anyone actually know (rather than just guessing)? Perhaps someone with an original factory AGM battery could share what the adaptration value is, as set by the factory?

Hi all,
I just recently replaced my Mk7 GTI battery after about 28 months. I bought an aftermarket AGM battery, replacing the original EFB battery.
I’m trying to recode the ECU with an obdeleven (pro version), and I can find the screens you guys have, but when I enter my details and try to apply them, the software returns an error ‘function not available’ (I can’t remember the number it spit out).
Has anyone come across this previously?
I’m considering taking it to the dealer or VW workshop to have them look at it

Thanks for the reply wgolfmk7.
Yeah the old battery was basically completely dead so I didn’t want to risk getting half way through and the battery completely die on me.
I’ll do a scan tomorrow and clear all the fault codes and try again.

So I tried it again this morning. I did a scan and then cleared all the fault codes they came up. I then went into the battery adaptation. The strange thing is that the battery manufacturer and the serial number field was blank, and from what I've been reading the serial number field is an important one, so it doesn't make sense why its blank. See the screen shot below. I then enter the details of the new battery, and then try to apply them and I still get the "(31) function not available". See the shot below. Do I need to send a security code? I read somewhere that it wasnt required, but could this be why I'm getting the function not available? Thanks for the help all.

Mac: I'm thinking that perhaps your car doesn't have a Battery management control module which is connected directly to the negative battery terminal (see picture below) and it might be this absence that may mean that your Gateway doesn't have the facility to enter the battery information (I'm guessing) From memory, I think that the battery monitor module is reported by OBD11 as a "subsystem" on the Gateway module @ address hex19
(don't worry about the yellow/green "gunk" in the picture - it's an anti-frosting spray that the dealers use down here in the Antipodes)

Can I just add that I haven’t got that on my battery (mk7.5) but can change the battery options, although the battery voltage mod doesn’t work on mine

^^^ hmm........ perhaps it's just a case of clearing the memory cache on the tablet/mobile phone on which the OBD app is operating??

Thanks for all the tips guys.
I tried unplugging and plugging the module back in at the battery terminal and then clearing the cache in my phone and still no luck, it said the function was not available. I tried also to restart the module holding in the power button on he head unit but didnt hear a "ploffff" sound so I dont think that worked.
After that I went back into the security code and tried a few more codes until I found the correct one. Went back into the battery adaptation and I was able to change the details!
It was strange the battery serial number field was blank, so I ended up population it and changing the size, type of the battery as well.

Hi, i have a little problem to code my new battery installed today in my golf 7 but on the battery i see only one code, anyone help me? Thanks a lot First - do you have a battery monitor module - see my previous post? If not - then no changes are needed
If so- It's not important to enter an accurate serial number - it is simply necessary to change the existing setting (which likely will be a string of 1's) Of course you should try to enter the AH rating and battery type

Thanks Don for your reply, yes i have the module on the negative and have already apply the new Ah value in battery adaptation like the guide posted...in serial number i have written part of the Varta code written on the label. There are other adaptation that i have to do?

EFB Technology

^^^ OK - that's probably the same as your old battery - so the "technology" setting doesn't need to be changes. So that's all that's needed - well done!

^^ "09 TT" - hmm..............is the Audi TT mk2 built on an MQB platform? I would be extremely surprised if it is. I'm not even sure that the Audi TT uses UDS protocol modules- like the Golf mk7. Explains why you can't find the adaptation channels above - perhaps you could pose your question in the Audi forum

Hi guys, just bought a new AGM battery for my golf r MK7. The problem is that there isn't an option under battery technology for AGM. The options I have are listed below. What do you suggest?
Kind regards Ian

Looks like AGM to me Only other would be EFB If it had an AGM it would come up as it was coded previously so would be correct, Unless you changed it
What was it on when you opened the coding
