Turn off auto start-stop:

Quick update you can now buy a stop start memory module ( example ) so for those users who's car always defaults to on by fitting the module it goes back to where you had it last set, some of the newer cars have this fitted from the factory.

but this is where there is a unique change for the atlas:

once i went back to module 09 and changed the "fernlicht_assistent-Erweiterte_Fernlichsteurung" to AFS:FLA: Fernlicht ueber AFS
then it works. Changed the menu on the infotainment screen and now when the light control switch is set to auto, the lights do not come on in daylight. I blocked the camera (with dark paper) and headlights automatically came on, and when i flick the high-beam stalk forward, i get the logo on the MFD in the dash (looks like headlight with "A" in middle: will upload img later)

Instructions for making high beam assist setting persistent:

"5 brake-light mod" - uses inner tails as brake lights in addition to outers and high-mount third light (this is for 2018 non-LED tails). All brake light intensity set to 127 (don't have to do this, default is "100" so if that's ok with you, no need to change channels 20 and 21):

If you want to adjust the way some of the exterior lights work, the following is how they are set up on my SEL Atlas Premium (with LED tails). You should be able to use this along with dv52's excellent white paper entitled "How MQB platform vehicles (like the Mk7 Golf) control external lights -preliminary observations" to do various things (see below for some suggestions).

I was able to do several things, all using adaptions in the BCM (Module 09):

I reprogrammed the INNER tails so that they will go to full brightness when the brake lights are on (matching the outer tails).
I reprogrammed the inner and outer tails to act as blinkers (illuminating during the "dark" phase so that they alternate with the separate blinkers). This is kind of like the pace car or joker tails on other MQB cars (although it's top-red/bottom-orange, rather than in-out). I set them to do this at brightness level 40% only so that the brakes (127% brightness) are still distinct.
I reprogrammed all the tails to increase in brightness from 10% to 40% when the rear fogs are activated. I replaced the rear reverse light with a red LED bulb, and also programmed it to come on when the rear fogs are activated. By default, the Atlas light switch does NOT have an option for the rear fog lights, but I have ordered a Euroswitch that I understand will be "plug and play." (Will know in a week or so!)
I reprogrammed the third brake light (CHMSL) to flash with the hazards, using instructions dv52 has posted elsewhere.
I reprogrammed the fog lights to include "Lichthupe generell" so that they will come on when I "flash to pass." I also programmed what I am calling the "grid deactivator" to do the same, so that someone behind me will see a subtle indication when I flash to pass. I also made it so the "flash to pass" function works even when the ignition is off.
I programmed the rear outer tails to be side-specific parking lights, and activated the "one-sided parking light" option using instructions others have posted elsewhere.
Turned on the "panic braking" options (that flashes brake lights and activate flashers when you slam on brakes and activate ABS when travelling at highway speeds).
I made several daytime running light changes, using the MQB instructions posted elsewhere. I turned on the so-called Scandinavian DRL, so that the taillights are active when the DRLs are on. I changed the option so that the DRLs will be OFF when I manually select to have only parking lights on. I activated a menu option to permit toggling DRLs on/off. (The feature that turns off DRLs when the parking brake is engaged was already on by factory default.
The "High Beam Assistant" by default will turn off every time the ignition is turned off, so you have to turn it on at all times. I changed this to make the setting persistent by adjusting Fernlicht_assistent--Fernlichtassistent Reset

A few other notes:

If the blind spot monitor light is not bright enough for you, try increasing brightness in "Suchbeleuchtung_allgemein--Warnblinktastersuchbeleuchtung Grundwert

Ah...on the dash...got it. How do you get the FM station art on the Infotainment?

For me, it shows up automatically for many stations. Apparently HD radio can broadcast the logos over the air. For those that don’t. Ross cast it, I loaded them on to a USB drive and plugged it in and then chose “station logos” in the fm radio settings to save them.

I don't have one of these cars and in any event there can be differences according to the way its configured and location.

Your setup has the German version but the once i copied from vwvortex is in english are there any other differences.

All I can suggest to you is do as i do on non critical systems (like brakes, Airbags etc) code it and see if it works (if it does not then revert) and then let us know which worked for you so we can update.

But please remember all coding is done by you at your own risk

I can't comment on whether the coding actually works, but (1) I agree the instructions seem to be the same but for the translation and (2) the adaptation map of this module on my Atlas SEL Premium has the German version shown in the FB screenshot rather than the English version shown above. (That is, "Fernlicht assistent" rather than "Assistant light functions" etc.--see below) I will say that the settings I have (with high beam assist active from the factory) are a little different than what the posters are saying they did to activate it on the lower trims. I don't have the menu to turn it on/off though, it's just on and activated with the blinker stalk.

I think you mean my module A5 long coding, which is what the instructions reference. The new module 09 in the Atlas apparently doesn't use long coding and is all zeroes. Here's the A5 long coding on my SEL premium--it does look like byte 21 is set at 20:

Regarding the "Menuesteurerung Fernlichtassisent" setting -- you are right that high beam assist works on my Atlas even though this was "not present" by default. I suspect that some of the other settings the people adding it don't mention, perhaps "Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent Werkseinstellung", also enable the function WITHOUT adding the toggle to the menu?

I'll try to take a picture of my stalk next time I am in my vehicle... I don't think it has a special logo on it. The motion to turn on high beam assist is simply the same as turning on the high beam. When the lights are on "Auto" and you turn on the high beam, it turns on high beam assist instead of the actual high beams. When the lights are manually on (not "Auto"), the same motion just turns on the regular old high beams.

I should note that the "Fernlichtassistent reset" setting determines whether or not you have to turn the function on EVERY time you start the car or if you can have the setting be persistent between restarts. The default is for reset to be "active" which means not persistent. I've since changed that to "not active" and it stays on between restarts now. See below.

Instructions for making high beam assist setting persistent:

    Values:

You are looking at the "friendly" version of the long coding that OBDeleven provides. Changing those options changes the longcoding numbers in the background.

If you click the "0|1" icon near the top right corner of your phone, OBD11 will switch over to displaying the bytes and bits that make up the long coding and then scroll over to byte 21. I believe the hexidecimal number 20 corresponds to 00100000 (i.e. activate the third bit within byte 21 but leave the rest unchecked).

I wish OBD11 was clearer about how the "friendly" options linked to the actual long coding. Maybe there is a way to see how they are tied I haven't found yet--I'm new at this!

With regards to the two versions of Long Coding the user friendly one is done by OBD11 Team the proper coding (which you see mostly in the codes) is done by the user community so there are many blank items, the rest have been filled in by users and if you feel they are wrong then you can send message to OBD11

Simple answer is you have to change the coding in the 0 version and then go see what it does to the 1 version.

I am currently putting together a full list of everything on my car to share with people and this is what i have to do to understand the impact of changes on the car and where required I update the narrative in the old long coding.

The same thing happens in VCDS Users try stuff out and share it with community and the long code helpers get updated.

Once you switch to the "unfriendly" long coding screen in module A5, you'll see the string of "bytes" across the top. Scroll over to near the end and select byte 21. Yours should have the value in hex format right there as "00" and in binary format as a series of 8 unchecked "bit" boxes. You can press on the "Hex 00" near the top to change it to 20 (and it should check the third box). Alternatively, you could leave the hex figure alone and check the third "bit" box and it should change the Hex figure. (Each two-digit string in the long coding is a hexidecimal figure, which can be broken down to eight binary bits. Hex 21 = binary 00100000.) Once it's changed, you hit the green button.

Ok. Offroad gauges. Reading on it. Some say it won't work unless you have the SEL Premium with the larger screen and Nav. Read one person's account saying it made it so his phone would no longer work via Bluetooth. Anyone have comments? Would be a cool one to have.
