Hi folks!
Hi OBDeleven developers!
I have a Tiguan Advanced (MY19) TDI 2.0 and DSG. Engine DFGA.
It has most of the second level driver aids (like automatic braking, lane assist/keeping, cruise control activated when driving over 60 km/h, top of the line adaptive led headlights, etc). It's also exterior R-line. What I'm missing are 2 things: EXTENDED LANE ASIST (to extend the warning 'keep hands on wheel' from the standard 10-15 to 45-60 seconds) & TRAFFIC JAM ASSIST (mine can be activated only over 60 km/h and works only by reducing speed or accelerating when in movement, but car doesn't start on it's own forward if I have to stop in traffic).
1 year ago I already investigated how to activate those two functions using APPs (there were none) or Long Coding in my OBD11 (PRO VAG plan), but I was told by every person I talked to that it was not possible to do such things with OBD11, as only VW or special tools like Odis could do it. Also someone mentioned to me that some car components might also need software updates (cameras, radars, etc) for this to work.
Yesterday I tryed my OBD11 again after some time and I went to see the APPs section specific for my car VIN, and was shocked to find out there is now an app that should do exactly what I want. It's called 'Extended Lane assist & Traffic Jam Assist' and it costs a whopping 400 credits (about 70-80 euros, but they could be worth it in my opinion as I already have 500 spare credits in my app).
The description says the APP only works with the Driver Assistance (control unit A5) with software number 3Q098654H (my car has the same one fortunately).
I made a full control units backup (all 21 of them) in OBD11. And I was thinking of trying it our. But I have some questions first:
1) I'm afraid of what the app would do (since it doesn't leave trace of the parameters changed like when I do them manually and can reverse them if i make a mistake). So If the APP works, great!....BUT.... if something were to go wrong with my car software with this application, It could do a lot of damage and if I understand apps correctly, I would be forced to buy another 400 credits just to to reverse the mess to its previous state? (shouldn't it be free to reverse a non working app?). Also since there is no change history, how can I be sure the reverse process would really bring things back things to how they were before the APP activation?
As it stands, it's easy-peasy to backup automatically the full control units with the OBD11 app. BUT I don't belive thay my iOS OBD11 has a feature to also automatically rewrite back the full backup to the car? (as in overwriting the original backup over the eventual bad app changes)? And being stuck to have to search and manually change (possibily) hundreds of parameters changed by the app whould be a nightmare (and I'm not sure I could be able to do it).
2) in the APP it says current staus UNKNOWN. Shouldn't it say 'not activated'? Why wouldn't it know the status of eACC e Traffic Jam on my car?
3) in the app description it says 'we highly raccomend connecting the battery charger before activating this application'. Why would that be needed? Is the APP process particularly long or it simply needs a full battery to work correctly? I have a car battery charger so it's not a problem, just asking why this specific app needs that.
If someone can help me, I would much appriciate it.
