Hi Guys, I have recently imported a 'High Line' spec Golf 7 estate from Japan, 2014 Petrol. It has Bi-Xenon headlights with the U shaped side outer lights. What i am seeking to achieve is the outer U shaped lights to be illuminated as DRL's when the interior rotary switch is set to 'Auto'. At the moment the outer U's only come on when the rotary switch is set to side lights and they seem to be on at about 20-30% brightness. I'd like them to be 100% brightness as DRL's on the 'Auto' setting. I have researched as much as i can on here but i can't get them to work, i have OBD11 and i am familiar with how to change the settings on there via adaptation. I have followed this thread to the letter : forum.obdeleven.com/thread/1129/odbeleven-problem-settings-head-unitThe screens on my OBD11 are set exactly as per the above thread - i did try setting 2 & 3 as per Don's direction but still no joy - Don did mention in the thread about the 'Leuchte' settings for the DRL's and for the author of that thread to revisit should they have problems - however their Jap Import was sorted with just the adaptation change. Sadly i've had no such luck as yet with the DRL's and the head unit still has no option to change the DRL setting either. Any help would be most appreciated

sweetpea : Hi. hmm......... I very much doubt that your issue is the same as the matter that I addressed in your link. In your case, i suggest the following: For the 4 x Leuchte-sets: - Leuchte2SL VLB10
- Leuchte3SL VRB21
- Leuchte4TFL LB4
- Leuchte5 TFL RB32
For each Leuchte-set, look through the 8 x Lichtfunktion channels for Standlicht vorn (Positionslicht; Begrenzungslicht) - there should be ONE instance of this Leuchte-command for each Leuchte-set. Change this setting to Standlicht allgemein (Schlusslicht; Positionslicht; Begrenzungslicht)
This change should illuminate the outer Angel-eyes as "DRL's when the interior rotary switch is set to 'Auto'" after-dark (I assume that the DRLs work OK in the AUTO position during daytime). However, the illumination level will be the same as existing.
The reason why the factory setting dims these lamps after-dark is because the reflectors in the Angel-eyes do NOT have ANY cut-off characteristics. This means that FULL illumination of the Angel-eyes after-dark will almost certainly blind on-coming drivers - hence the factory dimmed lamps at night are set for the safety of your fellow drivers!
Of course, it's ultimately your decision (and, your accountability) - but I strongly suggest that you respect this imperative by retaining the factory illumination setting - especially if you are a fellow Australian (because I might be the on-coming driver) !!

Thank you Don, as helpful as ever............... I may have confused things slightly though : to clarify, i don't have any DRL's at all at the moment, regardless of what position the rotary switch is in or whether its light or dark outside. The illumination of the outer 'U's is only possible when the rotary switch is in the 'side' light position (the position next to 'Auto' going clockwise) and then they are about 30% brightness, i'm ok with this setting . When the rotary switch is set to 'Auto' I'd like outer 'U's to illuminate as DRL's in daylight (at maximum brightness) and then dim during darkness when dip beam headlights are on. As you say Don, i don't wish to dazzle you when you are oncoming - however my lights would have to be pretty intense as i'm in the UK............... Do your 'Leuchte' suggestions still remain valid now or do they need to change slightly after the above clarification. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated as always. SP

Don,
Having thought further and if it’s easier to change - I really don’t mind if the drl’s go completely off when the dip beam headlights turn on, that would be perfectly acceptable………
Thanks again SP

Don
Update........Update.........all sorted now :
When i imported the car from Japan, the MIB1 unit was Region locked to that country. When i plugged the OBD11 into the car at that time there was a 'pre-pay' app to 'enable DRL's' in the MIB unit but when i clicked on it and paid, nothing happened on the screen & no option came up to enable DRL's.
A few weeks ago i sent the MIB1 unit away to be 'unlocked' and updated with UK maps. It did just that but gave me a whole host of features i didn't have before, such as KM to Miles change, KMH to MPH change on the dash centre readout.
I plugged in my OBD11 this morning and decided to re-visit the 'enable DRL's' as a pre-pay (credit) app.
Hey presto, it actually worked this time, giving me the option on the MIB screen, i ticked the box and the DRL's now work - in position 0 and 'Auto' - they even dim when the low beam headlights come on - so no dazzling Don!
Thanks again guys.
