Hi have you tried with the hood open? Thank you, with the hood opened it actually worked. I was able to activate GTi and R view with logo change. Nothing to do with torque indicator as it asks for login code. Thanks again

Thanks for that, I wonder how the OBD11/VW API will record the GeKo-Account(eg are all OBD11 Changes on the one account or will it differentiate per obd11 user account). The big difference here is that any warranty claim the Garage / VW will be able to see very easily that a non garage has made changes. As today will they be bothered to look or do anything about it, I suspect it depends on what has gone wrong. How the API is actually made for 3rd party vendors we can only guess. But we should not overestimate that. With SFD there is a lot of differenciation in access levels possible, so OBD11 users might not get their hands on some parameters after all. We already have the possibility to track back changes the way we would with SFD. After all, every control unit will record the last Date/Time of Coding (Time comes from GPS, so no easy tampering) and all authorized ODIS-Codings are played back to VWs servers, obviously with a timestamp. So any mismtach is easily found. A 3rd party supplier for retrofits is actually now announcing the following procedure: 1. build in hardware 2. Go to SFD, let them do the SFD unlock with odis 3. Plug in supplied coding dongle -> done So SFD is not tied to diagnosing hardware at all, when the unlock has been done, you are free to go with any equipment as you like. Claims: I can only speak for Germany. Here the workshop or dealer is billing against VW for warranty work. They are in close contact when it comes to software errors to make sure they are following VWs guidelines and get their work and equipment paid by the factory. So it is up to VW to deny warranty - and they clearly can check for coding right now. As always Thanks very much for the info, Sounds like SFD is going to be less hassle that I thought and people can use there OBD11 to open control unit so they can use VCDS to do work.
I am still confused about why users can modify dashboard on a control unit that is supposed to be SFD Protected, is the protection only on specific types of changes or does this come under the access level

Exactly. There are different access levels as we already saw with SecurityAccess Codes. Whyever, there are a lot of options in the dash not needing SFD, even in SFD locked units. Opening the bonnet is part of the diagnosis firewall, so no real fancy bug here.
There are plenty of settings not needing a security code in non-sfd units. Then there are some on top settings avaliable with 20103. Some control modules also accept a different SA-code which enables you to change even more options (See ESC for example with different SA-codes and different depths of changes)

Thank you that helped me a lot.
My original thoughts were that SFD Locked the control unit full stop. However as you say it appears it is working much more like the Security Access code, in that some changes need it and some do not.

That's what has been communicated in the development phase, a full lock on all CUs. Luckily, this did not happen. I cannot speak for the future, more SFD might come in no time, but right now, I think some interesting things are doable.

Well lets just enjoy the fact you can code right now.
There are big groups of people in both the US and Europe who will fight for the right to repair stuff as a minimum.

I dont have access to Golf so cant test it but have added below what looks like obvious coding assuming SFD dont get in the way
Activate beep when opening and closing
Seat belt warning off
Control Unit 17 - Long Coding - Text Version (0) -
Select Seat belt warning - Default is Version 1 (European) you can change it to Version 2 (US) or Off
Activate high beam assistant
Activate memory High beam assistant
Switch off rear window wiper
Control unit 09 - Adaptations: - Rear Window Wiper: Konfortwischen heck - Default is Active change to Not Active.
Activate memory function Aircare
This is the coding I have seen on a Skoda site for older car but the attributes are on the MK8
Select Control unit 08, Select Filtering of interior air, store:, Select Filtering of interior air, store: Change value to Active.
Remember seat heating last position
- Select control unit 08 - Select Adaption - Select Retention of driver's seat heater level: - Default it is set to Active for 10 minutes but you can change to Not active, Active or Active for 10 minutes - Select Retention of frt.pass. seat heater level: - Default is not active but you can change to Active or Active for 10 minutes.
Activate the fold mirror menu option
Select Control Unit 09 - Select Adaption - Select Spiegelverstellung: - Select Menuesteuerung_Funk_Spiegel_anklappen: Change value to Active
On the car i have access to this is already set so I am guessing not all cars come with it.
Daytime running lights on the rear lights
1 - Module 09 - Electronic control unit 2 - Adaptation 3 – Daytime running light 4 - Tagfahrlicht-Dauerfahrlicht aktiviert zusaetzlich Standlicht: - (Change value to Active)
Daytime running lights adjustable in the menu
- Module 09 - Electronic control unit - Code (31347)
- Adaptation
-Daytime running lights:
-Tagfahrlicht Aktivierung durch BAP oder Bedienfolge moeglich -Set to Active
Unlock door lock option in menu
Soon also the following options:
Video in motion
Customize layout and display Active info Display
Activate NM display Active info Display
Activate boost pressure display Active info Display
Activate engine power display in Active info Display

I was able to add the Offroad View in the Dashboard: In 17-Dashboard go to Adaptions. Set Offroad to Display Go to View Activation Change the setting in View_10 to active. You should see the following in the View cards.
Also if you have a Golf Style e-Hybrid setting View_7 to Active gives you this view from the Gte.

I have tested this. Also works on the Golf 8. (From testeronline) Change ICE Warning temperature With this mod, you can change the warning temperatures of possible danger of ice. 1 - Module 17 - Instrument panel - 2 - Adaptation 3 - outside_temperature: 4 - p_ice_warning_exit_temperature: - (Change value to the desired one - By default 6ºC) 5 - p_ice_warning_entry_temperature:- (Change value to the desired one - By default 4ºC)
Also for those that don't have the refuel quantity in the dashboard activate the following: 1 - Module 17 - Instrument panel (Dashboard) 2 - Long Coding 3 - Volume to be replenished: Set to Yes
It is also possible to activate the following displays in Adaptions-Configuration of displayable contents - Upshift display in center panel - Convenience tire pressure warning display - Driving profile display - Drag indicator - Acceleration measurement But have no effect on the Views I have, maybe certain other options are needed.

I suspect the Upshift diplay in center panel is for manual (do they still make those) gearbox or maybe when you are using the DSG in manual mode.
with regards to : 1 - Module 17 - Instrument panel (Dashboard) 2 - Long Coding 3 - Volume to be replenished: Set to Yes
you also have the ability to change this between Liter, Gallons (US) and Gallons (UK) under long coding change Volume.
Some people in the UK like mpg but see this in liter

Question on the Lap Timer and in general the settings under Personalization.
You are changing the Default value does that mean if you set up a different profile then if nothing is changed these settings are applied.
EG If you set Lap Timer to Yes does this apply to all Personalization's unless they are changed on each one.
The other option (another question) if I apply this change to Personalization of user account 1: (or any other account) then it only applies to that account.

Hello testeronline I have no other profiles set I can tell you that looking at Personalization 1 and Personalization 2 the value Display Laptimer is not active

For those of you with Golf 8 an interesting Video with some long coding helpers for the Golf 8 Further I also note they use security access 20103 a lot
So far all the coding seems to be just converting the view 0 to Byte Bit but where i can I will update the descriptions accordingly.

Looking at his coding he was able to change the laptimer on long coding Byte 01. I tried to do it but it asks for login🤦♂️. The code 20103 is not accepted. I will try again 😉 Update: Tried it but no go.

Did you do a data clear again and see if that works,
Are you just ticking the bit or are you updating the HEX Value
I have updated the descriptions in Most of Control Unit 17 will finish it off over the next couple days. There is one error that I need to get support to fix as there is a bug where you cant undo a group. As with the adaptions there appears to be a lot of commonality with the 7.5 descriptions i will do some more digging to see if we can get more done,
I am afraid i have only updated the English descriptions

In the dashboard unit (17) some adaptations need a security code and 47115 or 20103 do not work. Did they change the security access codes for MY2021 cars?
