My car came with humidity and rain sensor, no light sensor. I installed the sensor that includes a light sensor too, and installed a light switch with auto setting. Of course my car initially gave an error because I had to change some settings. I did a search here, found this topic, and ended up changing the setting Aussenlicht Uebergreifend to LDS mit AFL. This got rid of the error message in the car, but the lights when on "auto" mode are just always on. I tried putting the car in the middle of the sun and it's still just always on. When I put it manually off or city lights it works, but auto seems to always lead to full head lights. What could be the cause? Is there more I need to change in the settings? PS I'm not 100% sure it's an OEM sensor but I do think so, because it had white paint markings on it, and I think it came from a car wreck or something (sorry not native speaker, hope that's the right term). I bought it through ebay. Edit: I did not replace anything else, no new cables or windshield. As I understood, if there was a rain sensor before, the cable should be good?

^^^ problem could have lots of causes - more information needed!! Are there any error codes in your SCAN report? Post-up a copy of your scan report please. What is the value of the long-code string on the new sensor (it's a Subsystem of the central electrics module)? This is how to access the Subsytems in the central electrics module:
Instead of selecting WWS in the 2nd screenshot - select 0397_RLFSCheck the adaptation channel setting in the central electrics module: - Assistance light functions-Regen_Lichtsensor > LIN_REGEN_LICHT_SENSOR

Also, in central electrics --> subsystems, I only see one option: Sensor, DWA. When I click it, I get empty HEX fields. Nothing there just zeros.

I missed your last instruction somehow. I found the option and could indeed also activate the sensor which was not active yet. I'm not sure whether it works now since it was already later in the day around dusk. I will check tomorrow whether auto lights now function.

I could now also access the value you asked for!
It's 00 00 6C All bits turned off (no checkmark)
Ps I did notice this evening that the interior lights could be dimmed again. This was not working before I activated the sensor. So maybe that's a good sign for the light sensor....?

Hi I'm back again. Unfortunately it's still not working as intended although I initially thought so. The sensor for the head lights works fine and they turn on as intended now. Air conditioning and humidity sensor is also working. But the rain sensor is not. I cannot see the rain sensor in the MMI car information on the screen, and it seems to be functioning as if there were no sensor but just an interval switch. It just always goes on from slow to fast if I put it in the AUTO setting.
Any suggestions? What might I check?
PS also a seller of these sensors (coming from wrecks) told me that this is the wrong sensor for my car. I have the 8UO955559B/C sensor (it has both B and C on it, don't ask me why), but I should have 81D 907 253 according to them......

rgjleclaire : hmm....... I dislike the way that OBD11 fails to report Subsystems in its SCAN reports as default - VCDS does this much better (and it disclosures long-code strings in ALL modules) !! Huge diagnostic deficiency - IMHO!!!
OK. Clearly there's something amiss with your rotary-light-switch (called "LDS") according to your SCAN report. Usually an Implausible error signifies a physical problem - what is the back-story about the LDS on this car (presumably a new LDS was installed as part of the RLS exercise)? Does this LDS have fog light position and does the car have "all weather lights"?
For the wiper problem - maybe check this adaptation channel in the central electrics module: - Windshield wiper-Regensensor aktivieren > deactivating

Hi Don,
Sorry, the switch is already working well now and the errors are gone. It's just the wiper that isn't working. It just goes into interval mode when I put it on auto, meaning that it either goes slow or fast depending on the setting, but it's always on, it doesn't react to the sensor it seems. I will try that Windshield wiper-Regensensor aktivieren > deactivating again, but I'm pretty sure I already checked that and it's already deactivated.
PS: I get no errors anymore. The only error I get is about the software of the MMI, but that makes sense since I cracked it to get Apple CarPlay.

For the rain problem - I have to ask - did you raise the left-hand stalk (wiper control stalk) to the first switch position?
Maybe try selecting the rain sensor in Live data on the central electrics module - when water is splashed on the widescreen, does the measurement value change?

Thanks yes I know about the stalk (obviously, because I said that it does do intervals, it just doesn't respond to the sensor ;-) ). I will try the Live data suggestion and report back.
Oh I forgot to mention something else. Before I changed the settings to activate the more advanced sensor (with light sensor) the rain sensor was working just fine. Or at least, it was working. Then I changed the values such that this more complex sensor would be recognized, and I don't get error messages, but since then the rain sensing does not work. It also does not show up in the MMI car settings.
