Is there a difference when I run a scan with engine off and engine on? Thanks

Yes, I can’t remember what it does but I think there’s errors with it running

IDK if the offline (engine off) scan also scans things that have to do with the engine.
Im looking (expecting) a high pressure pump fault code.
But if it was truly faulty. Wouldn't it just record the fault and then show up on the off engine scan anyway?
I did get few fault codes once when I forgot to turn off engine before scan. Gave me DSG, handbrake and few other fault codes, that dont show up on the regular engine off scans. Thats why its confusing me.

venom7000: Hi.
When you use a diagnostic device to scan a car (regardless of who makes the device - VCDS, VCP, or OBD11), the process of invoking the scan function sends a message to the Gateway module to poll and return the values in a special part of each module's memory that is responsible for storing error messages. So for the purpose of scanning, it really doesn't matter if the engine is running, or if ignition only is switched-on.

Thank you for reply mate!
I was also wondering what is the procedure.
I just have a follow-up question then.
Why do I get dsg, engine or handbrake random errors while I scan with engine on? (While I scan with engine off they dont show up)
