Hi.. When at home I prefer using ODBeleven on my tablet. It seems the only way I can connect to my tablet is to turn my phone off completely. I've even tried just switching off bluetooth on the phone, but that doesn't seem to allow connection to the tablet. I still want the option of using either device... Is there something I'm doing wrong here? I'm sure it's something simple I'm overlooking..
Tablet in question is a Samsung GalaxyTab A 10.0 running Android 9
Thanks!

dediehl: Hi I also have OBD11 on both my iPhone and my Galaxy Tab A and I don't appear to have your problems. Some suggestions- more like guesses: On your iPhone, make sure that you select Disconnect before you exit the App.
Before you connect to the dongle in the Android device, is the color of the LED ring red? (assuming that you have nexgen)?

Hi.. Thanks for the response. I'm using the first gen device.. I'll make sure to select disconnect next time I use the phone..
On, a side note is it really worth upgrading to the newer model if I use Android devices exclusively, with no plans of using it on anything other than VAG vehicles?

^^^^dediehi: I'm not associated with OBD11 in any way - so I've no hidden agenda in answering questions about buying nexgen. For me, questions regarding whether it's worth an upgrade to the nextgen model are difficult to answer - because they involve the notion of "value" - which is a very personal thing!! It's easy to determine the cost of the upgrade - but it's not appropriate for me to tell you how to value this cost. Nexgen is marketed as being quicker and it does have a faster processor. But I reckon that the speed advantage is only observable if your ISP speed is good. If the internet speed on your current model OBD11 device is sluggish - you won't perceive much in the way of better performance Also, Nexgen is meant to be more future-proof than the first incarnation device and this might be of value to you. But I'm still worried about the impact of "Vehicle Diagnostic Protection" (it's called "SFD") on the longevity of ALL diagnostic devices (Other than ODIS) - including OBD11. Read my thread in the GENERAL QUESTIONS part of the forum about SFD, and pay particular attention to OBD11's response. I'm certainly not suggesting that VOLTAS is being disingenuous in their response about the impact of SFD on their product. Quite the opposite in fact - I'm positive that VOLTAS will be able to resolve the restrictions of the new protocols if they receive the requisite cooperation from VAG. It's just not clear (to me) at the moment that VAG will "play ball" with third party diagnostic cable manufacturers on this matter. I'm more than happy for my concerns about SFD to be unfounded - but it just seems odd that VAG would go to the trouble and expense of creating this new body of what seems to be quite draconian restrictions for post MY20 models and then to circumvent the entire protocol by allowing independent cable manufacturers to bypass the limitations. But again, mine is just speculation based on my scant understanding of SFD and based on a total lack of knowledge of the discussions between VOLTAS and VAG!! So I acknowledge that my views are full of many holes in my understanding of the issue!!
Who knows - perhaps the real purpose of SFD is simply to extract a fee from third party diagnostic cable manufacturers because of the industry market that VAG has created for these products - this is pure conjecture, of course !!!
The other value proposition for upgrading to nextgen is having the latest (read"best") device. This might sound trite to some, but there is a niche sector of prospective buyers who value this aspect of the purchase. I'm not sure if you are one of these folk. You might value engineering excellence (which changes with new models), or you might just value the slick, black look of nexgen with its colored bezel and its newness. Ain't nothing wrong if you do value these aspects of nexgen - it might be worth the cost if you do!! Don
