Hi All, I'm new to the world of OBDEleven and this Forum. I got one of the new generation Starter Packs last week. I wanted to clear an airbag light on my dash and eventually try some long coding. I'm using an iOS device My first try connected from my phone to it easily and I was able to clear the airbag light with out any problems. Since then on multiple occasions I've tried connecting to the OBDEleven and most of the time it gets stuck on the Reading control units... screen. I would say I have been stuck on this screen for at least 15 mins hoping it was just being slow but when doesnt seem to progress. Out of the 20 times i've tried to connect I would say i've only been successful connecting twice after the first time I used it. I've tried it with just the ignition on, I've tried it with the engine running (both ways have worked one before). I've tried connecting with Wifi and with 4G from my phone; it seems to not make a difference. I assume it's something i'm doing incorrectly but I will say when it works it doesn't tend to stay on the reading control units screen for that long before its starts scanning my car. I'm using the OBDEleven on a VW Eos and on an iPhone. I havent bought a Pro license yet (which I believe I need for long coding) as I wanted to get past this sporadic connecting issue first. Has anyone else experienced this problem and is it something silly that i'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

@hoyham welcome to the mad world of obd11.
Not personally seen this issue but some things to check - do you have the correct IOS Version (needs to be greater than 11 from memory
You are correct to do any coding you will need to upgrade to Pro but you can do that at any time.
Have you checked the dongle (when its in the socket) to make sure that there are some colors showing showing that its alive.
Secondly if you go to the Device section and remove the current dongle and then try again does this help.
Do you have location turned on as I seem to recall some issues if its not

hoyham: If I could add to testeronline's sage advice - OBD11 is unique in that it needs a healthy data link from the mobile-phone back to the VOLTAS-IT mother-ship for the App to work. This is because one of the first tasks after the dongle recognizes what model/make car that it is connected-to is to download the database for the car. This is not a trivial task and it requires a reasonable bandwidth in my experience. Just another consideration to throw into the mix IMO

Thanks for the advice testeronline and dv52.
My iOS version is the latest one. The Dongle is in the port correctly as it lights up and the phone see's it when I try to connect (I have to select and then it asks me for the 6 digit code I setup). My phone has location enabled. As for reception it fluctuates between 2 and 3 bars but that usually gives me decent speeds and wifi connection hasnt seemed to help - When i've done it on another time sitting on a drive with a strong wifi signal (not the time I remembered to take the screenshot it didnt seem to help). Like I mentioned earlier it's worked a few times in the past.
I'll try the removing the current dongle that testeronline mentioned tomorrow and see if it helps.
Thanks again.
