Just thought I would start a thread on here to show the differences between Android and IOS Application.
From the conversations that I have had with support the ultimate aim is to port Android to look like IOS I have no idea when that is going to happen but its in there plans.
In the mean time as I notice differences between the two I will keep this thread updated for two reasons, Firstly The OBD11 Web pages do not give the full picture of what is left to do and they did not update it after the last release so I wanted to be able to see what is not there when talking to people about there support problems.
Example somebody was trying to add a new control unit manually to IOS screen but that bit of functionality is currently not there.
One other thing to note not all data that you change / save in Android is automatically copied across to IOS
this is work in progress
Android Function 0.23.3 | Notes | IOS Function 1.2.2 | Notes |
Full Backup | in 0.23.3 This either does not work or is missing data Bug has been reported | Full Backup | In 1.2.2 This function runs but only saves the first control unit Its labeled as Backup not Full Backup. - Now fixed in 1.3.0 but only saves the full backup it does not do like Android and save into each control unit relevant part. |
Garage | Shows all the cars you have loaded / connected with | Garage | Works in the same way as Android but the name sort order in IOS uses different fields to Android and further is missing By date updated sort order. |
Scan | Scans control units and shows the number of errors History Shows Active and Inactive faults, Millage KM Only and Date | Scan | As Android but you can set Millage to be Miles or KM (Android cant) |
Control Unit Detail | Software Version check vs other cars on the OBD11 Database and highlights latest version found | Control Unit Detail | Not currently available to be built at a later date. |
Scan Clear | After you have run a scan the screen will show the updated number of control units and errors. | Scan Clear | The clear just removes the errors that could not be cleared however this is not shown on the screen you have to view the individual control units. |
Please note there are bugs in this process. | Please note there are bugs in this process.
Long coding descriptions | User is able to add description of bit, group bits together and provide option list. It supports multi language input / view regardless of language setting | Long coding description | To be developed and the current view does not link description to bit just a different tab |
Charts | Live data being recorded in .csv file for later use. Lots of request to improve this process | Charts | To be developed |
Gauges | Simple one screen to show one live data element | Gauges | To be developed |
Control Unit Reset | Not fully sure what this is | Control Unit Reset | Released in 1.3.0 |
Trouble Code freeze Frame | More detailed information about when and why error occured | Trouble Code freeze Frame | To be developed |
Output Test | Control Unit 01 Engine emission output test's | Output Test | Released in 1.3.0 |
AutoCode gateway list | This process will reconcile you list of gateway units vs the car's actual control units and add / removed automatically ones that do not match | AutoCode gateway list | To be developed |
Language | Android has two settings, Application and Database and they can be changed independantly | Language | IOS You have to add languages manually and then create a sort order. This is my personal view but unlike Android you can only change language for both Application and Database not independantly |
Login Finder | This process allows you (if you have one valid security code) to find all the valid codes on a particular control unit Please note for 2020 onward cars this may no longer be a useful feature as the new VAG Security process may remove the need for these security codes. | Login Finder | To be developed |
History Filter | Filters for Time, Archived Data and all the control types Fault and Clear items are by default hidden fromstock view. | History Filter | Filters for Time and Archived data to be developed. Further by default in Android Fault and Clear data is unticked as it will cluter up the history file very quickly, This is to be developed as well. |
Archived Data | This is a feature to hide (archive) data from the normal History view although in the Filter you can add these back in, keeps you History view limited. | Archived Data | To be developed, however by default the view in history in IOS is non archived data only. This means if you archive a history item in Android you wont be able to see it in IOS. |
Data Sharing | In Android you can email Info, history items, Charts History currently does not allow you to email a single control unit backup - Bug issue raised and Info screen does not work on Gmail but does on Yahoo mail. | Data Sharing | Info does not support email in IOS Charts are to be developed, hopefully with email send facility. Bug currently using the IOS Email service the email address saved under settings does not get auto populated. |
Wallet | The wallet allows you to buy, get free credits and see history of credits added and used | Balance | Shows total credits but no history Allows you to get free and buy more credits |
Statistics | Shows all your OBD11 Activity in numbers - in my view not a lot of use but some will like it | Statistics | Not available |
My parts | This is a beta product and I have not seen a lot of use so dont know if it will continue. However in simple terms this is an OBD11 Ebay market. | My Parts | Not available |
Orientation | On Android you can set the default view to be Portrait or Landscape | Orientation | There is no setting for this and it works fine on the phone with Safari but not OBD11 |
Workshop Number | On Android you can set the workshop number that is recorded against any change you make to the cars settings. This makes it look like a Garage did the work and not OBD11 Device | Workshop Number | Not available. |
Equipment | On Android you can add all the Equipment codes that are on the cars sticker to keep a full record of what it came with. | You can do a lookup for the codes but there is no where to store them.
Body Type | Under Info you are able to change some of the details of the car, Body Type being one of them | Body Type | Currently just a display item |
Manuals | User created Manuals related to the car you are looking at | Not available
Home Screen | In Android you can choose to have a single car as your start point or the Garage, Further in Settings you have the ability to add Vehicle name, Year, Engine to be shown on the home screen or not as you decide. Plus the Connect button. | Home Screen | This tab in IOS has no picture of your car, its just a stock picture of the Next Gen Dongle and narrative that you should plug it in. Plus the great Connect button. |
Scan Errors | You can choose to see the errors of the scan in either Control Unit Number or Icon format | Scan Errors | Only supports Icon |
Fault Description Multi Language Support | In android when you have a fault shown on the top right of the screen you will see a language flag, if you change the flag (language) to a different one then the Fault code description will also change | Not supported in iOS
Dongle Passcode | In android you can have the app ask each time you connect or at random times | IOS Requires the passcode all the time. |
New Release 1.3.0 on 09/07 no longer have IOS phone so cant full test the above list.
What I can say is that Email facility no longer works
