Description of bug:
I have borrowed a friends iPhone to have a look at the IOS Setup and a quick check against what i am used to on Android has shown the following differences.
All these differences I mention are because i am expecting the two apps to be the same otherwise trying to help people with queries when setup is different is difficult, and that is sort of the point of this forum.
Updated with response from OBD11 Support
In general they are aware of the differences but we will be upgrading Android the same as IOS in the near future so it will be the same eventually.
1/ Garage - I sorted the cars by name and compared it to my Android device and they were different.
Reason the name in Android (which is displayed and used to sort in the garage) is the Model only, in IOS you use Make and Model.
example my car details show as A for Model and 1.cupra280.co.uk so in IOS you sort using A 1.cupra280.co.uk but in Android it uses 1.cupra280.co.uk (i put the 1 in to make it come to the top of the list.
2/ Apps, in android I can see the apps when offline in IOS you get message You need to connect to the vehicle first when using the apps option in the home screen but it does work from the car menu
You can do this via the car menu - They will look at trying to make this better
Yes I did point out that i could do it from the car menu, however if the menu item does not work offline then it should only be available online
3/ Scans. I ran a scan and got 3 control units with 4 errors and this is the same as Android.
however when I ran a clear it removes from the scan all the errors but when you go to the control unit you can see the errors and status is Red which is good.
In the android app when you run a clear it brings back the total number of errors and control units left after the clear.
Whilst I can see that by looking in History or control units it is nice to see it on the scan screen in my view.
I notice that in History you are showing both Faults and Clears in the history, in Android by Default these are ticked to not show although you can change that. This was done because you end up with a lot of rubbish in your history screen and extracts that most of the time you dont want.
I presume you have not yet built the Archive feature in History - eg the ability to put items into archive so they are not lost but dont clutter up the screen unless you tick to show archived data.
According to the data on both IOS and Android I have 4 errors and after the clear i had only 2 errors in one control unit.
However when I go into the control units where i had errors (19 and 44) they are still showing errors so the history/Scan function (and i think android has the same issue) is incorrect. There is another difference here as well in IOS offline you show the control units (correct list) that are in error in Red in Android they are all white regardless.
In the Android version it is possible to show faults with Icons or Control unit numbers I presume this is a future development
IOS setup is the way Android will be in the future
For me this defeats the object of running the scan, it highlights the errors, you run the clear and then you get a good view of the issues with your car.
In the IOS method you have to go hunt the answer in the control units.
Further please note I have identified a bug in that history shows different values to control units - this needs to be sorted.
4/ Offline Control units - When I look at the car offline under control units it shows Control Unit 33 which is a) not shown on Android and b) I believe is only used for non vag car eg that is what i see when i look at my ford transit.
Like the Android offline data for my car you also show control unit 56 but this is not shown when I connect to the car as I believe its part of 5F Multimedia
You can't find the control unit 56 on IOS, but you an on ANDROID AND ITS ONLY IN OFFLINE MODE
Control Unit 33 and 56 are both shown in offline mode - Yes it is only in offline mode but its sloppy as these control units are not valid or they should be in the live view.
Ticket raised OI-1236
5/ Control unit Info screens - First thing I noticed is that IOS does not display the New Version exist's data for software version (not a bad thing as it causes a lot of issues for people asking why how etc. However I noticed on the Android we also have a value called Identifier (J and 3 numbers)
This will be added to IOS in a later release.
6/ History screen for Backup one small point the Mileage shown is correct however it does not advise if this is K (Which is the only one from memory) or Miles.
Example screen shot
Mileage issue ticke OI-1237 - Minor bug has been raised.
I think that you only show non archived output, i did a quick test and archived a change in Android and it was removed from view in IOS.
After Backup
|
|
Android before I archived it
| First backup in list
|
IOS First backup in list after we did a Archive in Android (eg it only shows non archived data)
|
|
|
|
I checked my last backup and noticed some differences
under adaptations i have
Idle RPM correct in IOS this is -1120 1/min in android 0 1/min
Engine run-in oil prssure in IOS its active in android not active
Protective function in IOS Off in android Enabled.
7/ Long coding
Personal view I prefer the Android setup, You have three options at the top, Car, People and 0101
Under people it looks like you only show the options where we have put in descriptions however there is no linkage to the actual bit / byte where I suspect most people get there coding instructions from. Secondly under the old style long coding you do not show any of the description data that we have all spent a lot of time adding.
Further I don't see any way to select language so that i can check is somebody else has added description in different language.
Final point I presume the process to add descriptions will be in a later release.
The long coding will keep as it is on IOS and in teh future, you may expect teh same on Android too.
Descriptions of development for long coding, live data, adaptations, will be added in the near future
Not happy with that so on Android today I have the following
In android we have two options
Shortcut Menu
| Byte and Bits along with user defined descriptions
|
|
|
So this setup allows me to see the OBD11 Built shortcuts and then I can look into long coding and see the Byts and Bits along with the individual descriptions and options. Please note at this point Android also allows me to add in descriptions in multiple languages as well as being able to view the descriptions in multiple languages (which is very helpful)
But in IOS I have this.
Shortcut menu
| Byte, Bit
| This is the Description data but on a different view so no relationship with Byte and Bit
|
| |
|
My view on this change is NO THANK YOU, Shortcut menu is the same so fine but you get much less data on a screen vs the Android app.
Byte and Bit is ok but has no description, for this you have to look at another screen.
As I have already said this is not how I want it, not saying others will complain but when I look at a Bit I want to see if anybody has given me a clue what this does if I look at the final screen you will see the descriptions but no link to Byte Bit...........
Finally the help function at the top of each screen whilst you can remove takes up a lots of space. It would help to move it elsewhere or allow user to have a setting feature to remove it all the time as it just waists important screen space.
Good news, Support have confirmed they will add in description on the Byte Bit screen - thank you.
Just a general comment since you rolled out 1.2.2 the list of what is being worked on has not been updated on your web site would be nice to get a refresh on the list.
The dates will be added for IOS on the next release too.
Please note I fully appreciate you guys are working very hard on getting IOS Fully out there and the above comments are just the differences that i have seen and if they are in the dev pipeline just ignore them. I also am new to IOS Phones so its very possible I have missed something obvious feel free to let me know.
