Seems like after an initial flurry this topic died off the last couple of months. I see what looks like some reports of success by 2019 Touareg owners at least. I have a 2019 VW Atlas SEL R-line. Does anyone know if it can support wireless Carplay as well if the steps to lock the wifi to 5GHz works?

Hello guys, I am absolutely new here, can you help me please? I've just bough a new VW polo in Israel with factory wired carplay, I am pretty sure that my head unit have an option to enable wireless carplay but our VW says that it is impossible. What obdeleven device/pack should I purchase to enable it if at all possible? I do not want to use stuff like carlinkit. Thank you in advance!

I tryed to delete the phone from the connectens I press the volume button for more than 20 seconds for restart the VW unit...but it doesn’t work. Wlan have to active in the unit? But what is with the lte connect, when i activate wlan in the car. Just to give answer to this old post, as I experienced the same error, I just activate the wifi hotspot in the car, and then I was able to use carplay wireless (touareg cr7 07/2018).

ok I'm unable to get this to work in my 2019 CR Launch Edition (Australian model) with innovision digital cockpit. Here's what I've done. 1) delete existing phone from the car's wifi and bluetooth setting. 2) Forget the car's wifi and bluetooth in my iphone (12 with ios 15.3) - so bascically start from scratch. 3) Make sure wifi hotspot is enabled - can see the little icon in the top right of the infotainment display so I know that's working. 4) open bonnet 5) connect (using an ipad) with obd11 pro and navigate to multimedia>vehicle configuration 6) Made sure the following switches were as below.. Apple_DIO_Wirelss = on Google_GAL_Wireless = on
Apple_DIO = on Google_GAL = on
Wifi_Client_HMI = on Wlan_5ghz_Switch = activated
7) Committed the settings, turned off the car, closed the bonnet, locked and unlocked the car. 8) Turned on the car and connected my phone to the BLUETOOTH only. It connected and asked all the usual questions like sharing contacts etc which I allowed. It then asked a new question if I wanted to allow carplay through VOLKSWAGEN, I clicked ALLOW.
Now in the carplay settings in my iphone I can see a profile for Volkswagen and it's enabled. My phone seems to want to use wireless carplay, but my carplay screen in the vehicle just sits there saying "connect with USB". I must be missing something? Can someone with a 2019 CR with innovision check the above and their settings and see what's different please? Perhaps a screen dump of all of the settings in adaptations? Please also note I have NOT connected the phone to the car's wifi as that is not normally necessary for wireless carplay, plus my vehicle doesn't have a sim card so my phone loses connectivity if I connect to the vehicle's network as it doesn't have an internet connection. I've tried this 3 times now and still no success. Thanks Darrin Smith

Hi,
I have exactly the same setup as you... Same car, same iphone etc. Your setting are correct. Is your iphone connecting to the wifi in your car? It should do this when bluetooth connects...
If all of that is ok, try rebooting your media system by holding the volue knob down for about 10 seconds (until the screen goes blank) then release and press again. Once it restarts wireless should work.

The innovision (discover premium) doesn't have any buttons, it's completely touch screen so there's no on/off or volume button to press. What country are you in, VW AU is good at leaving out features, so I suspect something else is missing from the car, as people on the AU clubtouareg group are also failing to get it to work.

The innvovision pack has a volume knob. It works as a button if you push it rather than scroll it. I said I have an identical car to yours. I am in Sydney Australia. Mine is white, what about yours?

I am not sure I fully understand your message, but yes. You need to activate wlan for wireless carplay. Connecting to bluetooth should auto-connect to the wlan in the car. The first time you connect you should be prompted to unlock your iphone. You make also have to tell your iphone it's ok to connect to carplay while the phone is locked. Hello! Did you solve it?? I have same problem. After all passages iPhone start to Connect to Car there’s an error: connection error. Check if mobile Is locked

I recently had the firware in my car updated - 9 modules updated. The only functionality I lost is wireless carplay. I am thinking this explains why some people cannot get wireless carplay working. Anyone with the newest firware in their Touareg able to get wireless working?

Update: I have put a SIM card in the slot in the glovebox, turned off the connect to WAN, which then prompted me to turn on business phone & data. I turned on the WIFI hotspot and suddenly, wireless carplay works again!
Thanks for the tip, Adix!

Can confirm, putting a sim in the module phone/data slot in the glovebox and activating the hotspot made mine work too. One happy camper. Just need a larger CarPlay display now.

Hi...Please can someone assist...I am trying to setup Carplay in my 2019 Touareg and have gone through all the steps, I am connected with Bluetooth, but I am keep getting connection failed when clicking on "app connect, Carplay"...Can anyone offer any insight why this may be happening. Just a couple of things I am not sure if it's correct: I have ticked "Sim for Data only" Am I supposed to be connected to the hotspot of the car. And even if I am not, I can not get the hotspot to connect to any of my phone's, on my samsung it says can not find IP address, and on my iPhone it says "no internet connection-low data mode". Not sure if any of these factors is not allowing me not to connect to Carplay. Please help Thank you

Hi I have a 2022 Touareg and I have successfully managed to activate wireless apple car play by putting a data sim card in the car and using the car's wifi as hotspot. But it seems if i remove the sim card then wireless carplay stops working. Any way to use wireless carplay without the sim card? Cheers
