Trying to hunt down the culprit for P0441 (Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow) error on my MKV Golf 2.0 FSI (BVX). There are currently no other related codes, just passenger door lock malfunctioning and towing module not found.
So far I've replaced my N80 valve (06D 133 517 B) but the error returned. After this I encouraged my self to try the Basic Settings menu to try to run the self diagnostic. Test block 70 seemed to do something and the values varied on the screen, TEST ON, and finally TVV is OK. The block 71 seemed to be "missing" totally. View from OBDEleven: What I understood the test block 70 is the "flow" test and 71 "leak" test.
Any idea where leak test is, or is it even unavailable?

I was able to do some measurement on channel 70 with ~30 km trip
Block 70: Fuel tank venting and valve testing, short trip Value 1: Opening degree fuel tank ventilation Value 2: Lambda regular / diagnostic value with active diagnose Value 3: Idle air control valve / diagnostic value with active diagnose
Test itself was "TEST OFF" during the whole measurement.

While driving, it seemed that the Value 1 climbed always to 100% if I kept the engine load constant, for example with cruise control on. Also the value dropped nearly immediately to ~0 % if I lifted the gas pedal (or lowered the speed on cruise control).

Ordered a new EVAP canister + hose from China through eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Charcoal-Canister-Hose-Set-For-VW-Beetle-Jetta-Golf-Rabbit-EOS-AUDI-A3/321795102523) using part code 1K0 201 797 AB as search. Part code was found from here volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/golf+variant+4motion/golf/2007-474/2/201-201095/. Let's see what happens after switching it when it arrives.

The charcoal canister was the actual fault in my car. Replacing this with one which had the new hose with a one-way check valve fixed my issue.

Finally received the charcoal canister that I ordered from eBay. The installation was a breeze, just plug it in instead of the old one. One thing I noticed the cable going to fuel tank was much tighter fit than the old one (the smaller end). There was a gap of few weeks before I got around checking the fault codes after the installation. To my surprise there was now no more P0441. I don't remember resetting it either. I did a short test run with the new charcoal canister while measuring channel 70. It's not the exact same route, but both include a highway part (where the value "1" goes to 100%). The value seems to go steadily up when I have it on cruise and under a small load. If I lift the throttle, the value goes immediately down, then it takes a short while of steady load to bring it back up. I cannot spot any difference in the chart, it goes up and down like before... Though I'm not complaining if the P0441 stays away.

You may find that it wasn't the entire canister that was the problem, but the rubber diaphragm (that acts like a check valve ) that wasn't sealing properly.

Matthew... in your case was the rubber diaphragm not sealing properly? Does the canister "kind of" come apart so you can inspect it and put it back together? (component level repair) Or does the sealing rubber diaphragm just degrade and you can't service it separately. Trying to discern your comment. As in, did you learn that the diaphragm can be re-seated and put back in the car and voila? Thanks

MY rubber diaphragm was not sealing properly. It curled downward slightly due to old-age, I guess. Cutting open the canister is the only way I could think of actually getting the "top" of the canister off around the seam to see what is inside. This isn't practical as it is just charcoal bits and "damp" dust if the car was parked for a while. There is just the "paper-cloth" like material keeping it all down in the canister. I wouldn't consider this work repairing other than to replace it. The eBay/China clone units are just as good in my opinion.
If you could pull the diaphragm off, then replacing it with another would require a tweezer to stretch the little hole in the center around the protruding thing in that "hose connector". The charcoal canister isn't sold in parts. The eBay China ones can be bought for as cheap as $US20, so it is easier to just replace the entire thing including the supplied hose
Yes, the sealing rubber diaphragm degrades, and you can't service it separately. My only experiment would be to flip the (used) diaphragm upside down to see if it seals better, but it isn't worth the hassle since we now know how easy it is to replace.
