No support from the staff/developer. arik: sounds very strange - The red LED is operated by what's called the "Terminal 30" voltage on the OBD port, which meas that you don't need to have the ignition turned-on. The fact that you don't have LED lights suggests (to me at least) one of 2 x possible causes.
- Either the "T30" supply to the OBD port under the dash (the connector that you plug the OBDeleven dongle into) has failed
- Or, your dongle is faulty
In respect of (I) above check that pin #16 (see pic below) on the OBD port isn't bent and that there is voltage on this pin with the ignition turned-off. Also check fuse #8 on the "C" fuse box - it's a 30 A fuse and it's located under the steering wheel on LHD cars.
In respect of (II) - alas "caveat-emptor" (google it if you aren't familiar with this term)

Thanks Don,
I will try your suggestion. Device was successful connected 3 days ago and left plugged in the car, while it was 40+ degree days under car port in Melbourne weather.
The fact is that it is warm when plugged in, I assume the power is still being supplied to the device from the car. I think the OBD device is faulty. When I tried to connect, the phone detected the Bluetooth device and showing address but could not be connected. After several fail attempts the Bluetooth is not detected anymore. Not sure if anyone has experienced this issue before, hope you can confirm so that I won't waste money buying a new device.

^^ ^ arrhh........ so you are a fellow Melbournite??? I've not seen a temperature specification for a OBD11 dongle. May be leaving the dongle in the car on one of our warmish days may have cooked it. PM me if you still have no luck.

hi Don,
still no luck.
The fuse is ok, the pins are ok, but no LED lit up. I think it is faulty, still getting warm when plugged for couple of minutes.
I opened it with a stanley knife (insert knife blade between black and white cover, there are two clips one on each side), the inside looks OK, nothing appeared to be breaking or melting, no smelling of electrical burnt.
I will try it on another car and another phone before throwing it away in the trash. I am afraid of getting a new one because it may be ending up too expensive to replace them every 1-2 years if the built quality is poor, notice someone else are having similar or same issues but no apparent resolutions.

According to other users who had this issue, the VIN must be added to database in order for it to get connected. forum.obdeleven.com/thread/1764/dongle-connect?page=1&scrollTo=34854Someone has contacted Support and they were able to resolve the issue. Apparently, when I tried to contact Support, I am getting the message that if the Device is out of warranty they can not help. I have a VW GOLF SEPT 2019 FL version, and have been using the dongle for 3 months, prior to that i used iton my 2014 My7-TDI. It can not just failed out of sudden. Clearly Obdeleven is trying to phase out Gen 1 devices by not willing to provide support to customer who is out of warranty. What If they block the car from connecting or device from connecting to their server, God knows.

ak I am afraid just like your car when the warranty runs out, support stops (or cost's lots of money in the case of a car) Some questions have you actually had the dongle working on your 2019 golf. Does this car allow you to hide the bluetooth (for the MMI) as in the past we have seen issues where obd11 don't work when its hidden. Have you tried it on another car (since it stopped working) and or phone

John-true,and if the suspect dongle has had the "Jimmy rooster" (it's an Aussie term meaning "broken"), Don could offer him one of his old dongles - I understand that he has now accumulated quite a few!!!

I just tested the device on my sister's Polo 2018, still no light and Not connected. Now, just need to find an android Phone to test before i throw it in the bin.
Any suggestion about getting next gen or stick with Gen 1 again, if i buy a Gen 1 device again, can I re-use my old PRO code to activate the new dongle?

Dude the pro code is on the app and nothing to do with the dongle, you could have your, mine, dons and anybody else’s dongle running on your app (with pro), personally I’d go see don like said previously As he has dongles, androids and testers, every thing you’d need to fault find

Extremely late reply but this may help OBD11 users in the future.
I have the OBD11, the one just before the next-gen device. I used it quite often, however, for a good 3 months I left it sitting in my drawers collecting dust. Today, I came across an issue on my caddy and decided to use the obd11 to diagnose it and hopefully clear up any faults.
Upon first fitting the device to the obd port, I noticed that there wasn't a red LED light like usual. I opened the app and it would not connect through Bluetooth either. This was strange as it was purchased not too long ago. I started wondering that maybe the obd port on the vw was faulty, so I checked the fuses and connections, but there were no signs of problems. To be sure, I tried the obd11 on another 2 vehicles and the same issue arose. I was 100% sure that it was the dongle and not the vehicles at this point.
Went back inside and realised that the interior part of the obd11 device [where it fits into the obd port of the car] had some dust in it which led me to think that it could just be that which was blocking a proper connection or interrupting something within the device itself. I picked up an interior cleaning brush and harshly went at it for a decent 10 seconds, making sure I took all the dust out of all the crevices. It ended up looking brand new again.
Upon the second attempt, the device lit up with its red LED and it began working again like it used to. problem solved, for now.
