I have a us spec gti with the lighting package. Is it possible to code the fog lights to be on with only the DRL in day light if the headlight switch is in auto and pulled out? Current setup will turn on the headlights even in day light if headlight switch is in auto and pulled out. Or is the us headlight switch "wiring" does not support this?
I know there are euro spec head light switchs available that will allow fog lights with DRL with manual selection. However, i am just interested in this ability in the auto position. It will be interesting if this is possible with coding.

I don't believe that it's possible to do what you want because there are too many variables in your suggested operation of the fogs. The real problem with your question is the manner in which you want the fogs to switch to "normal" behaviour at night-time with the rotary switch in the "pulled-out" position. There just ins't a Leuchte command that does this- alas. Perhaps one of our other forum colleagues here can figure-out how to do this - but I can't!
However, let me invite you to consider the following as a 2nd-best alternative:
The tweak below will illuminate the fog-lights whenever the DRL function operates (which only happens in daylight) - WITH THE ROTARY SWITCH IN THE OFF, OR AUTO POSITION (i.e. regardless of whether the centre switch is pulled-out, or not). At night-time when the DRL function does not operate (i.e. when the DRL lamps operate as Parking-lights), the fog-lights can be switched-on in the normal manner -that is, by pulling-out the centre switch)
Don
INSTRUCTIONS: - Select Central Electrics (address hex09)
- Select Security Access
- Enter magic number 31347
- Select Adaptations
- Search for Leuchte12NL LB45 (this is the Leuchte-set for the left-side fog-light)
- Select Lichtfunktion B 12
- Only if the existing Setting is not active, change to Tagfahrlicht
- Execute change by pressing the green tick
- Search for Leuchte13NL RB5 (this is the Leuchte-set for the right-side fog-light)
- Select Lichtfunktion B 13
- Only if the existing Setting is not active, change to Tagfahrlicht
- Execute change by pressing the green tick
- Exit OBD11 software
Here's a picture of the relevant screen-shots for the 2 x adaptation channels for this tweak - see yellow boxes (ignore the setting for the "lasttyp" channels - these values are from my test-jig which uses low power LEDs as surrogate fog-light lamps)

Don, thank you for looking into this. I think your alternate suggestion would suit me just find. In fact, making the fog lights as DRLs is exactly what i was going for in my initial request. I will give it a try in day light (it is night time now for me).
Maybe, if enough people are interested, admins can make this an app.

Don, thanks again for the write up. It works as expected. I'm sure others will find this useful as well. Cheers!

So the foglights can be coded to be on with the DRL's, but there's no way to get DRL's only during the day, on auto, with the foglight switch pulled out? I only want my low beams and fogs to turn on at night. During the day, I want to leave my switch on auto with foglights enabled, but do no want the low beams on until it gets dark. That way I can leave my settings on automatic, rock DRL's only during the day, and then low beams and fogs turn on after dark without me having to manually enable/disable throughout the day.

So, as I understand - you are lamenting the fact that the OEM rotary light switch on a mk7 turns-on the fogs & low-beam lights when the dial is on the AUTO position with the switch pulled-out - regardless of the ambient light level. If you want to have the low-beam & fog lights switched-on only when there is low light level (in the AUTO position with the switch pulled-out), then buy yourself a cheap Chinese rotary light switch with the light sensor that plugs into the rear of the switch (from fleabay). I have installed one of these on my test bench -see picture below and it does what you want. I suspect that you will need to disable your OEM light sensor - I think. I haven't installed one of these cheap light sensor/rotary switches on an actual mk7, so my suggestion is totally untested. Does anyone else here have a cheap Chinese light sensor/rotary switch fitted to their car that can confirm my observation on my test bench?

So I've found this setting, but when I click and hold on the check mark, it tells me this: (31) Function Not Available. Any ideas? I have a 2017 GTI SE.
NEVERMIND! Figured it out. If you have this problem, disconnect and connect again. I also turned the lights off when I did this.

Hi there,
So i followed these steps and this function for only works when I have my switch set to the parking lights. It doesn't do it in the OFF or Auto position. What would be the reasoning for this?
Thanks again!

I'm very surprised that adding the "Tagfahrlicht" command (which translates to DRL) to the fogs Leuchte-set would make your fog lights illuminate when the switch was on the parking-light position (i.e. when DRL don't illuminate) And that the fogs don't illuminate with the normal DRL when the rotary switch is in the OFF, or Auto position. Sounds opposite to what the tweak was designed to happen! Don

To make note it was dark enough for the low beams to come on so I'll have to try it in the morning to see if it works when its light out in the Auto switch position. Like i stated it function normally in the parking light position. So i'll have to just check it later today! Also I have a 2016 VW Golf SE with LP from the factory so I don't know if that makes any difference or not. I also posted the screenshots of the history from my OBD11! Thanks! Attachments:

Looking for coding to operate fog lamps with drl. Only when light switch is in parking mode. Fog lamps off when switch is in off position.

Seems to me like you guys will be better off installing a Euro light switch. It allows the operation of the fog lights with the park lights.

Just got the Euroswitch and I’m able to run both DRLs and Fogs. However when I pull the fog switch the DRLs will dim.
Is this a circuit restriction or it can be coded to not dim? This is the same dim as when the turn indicator blinks.
I’m ok with the flasher dim however I’d like DRL+Fog to be fully bright on day time.

MK7.5 alynch: Here's a copy of an answer that was provided by a slightly deranged, but well-meaning colleague on another forum: Short answer is NO. Longer answer is as follows:
The aiming characteristics of the DRL reflector is designed for maximum recognition by oncoming vehicles during daylight hours. The same DRL "Luminaire" (which is the reflector & housing) is also used for the Parking -Light function (PL) - I think yanks call this "side-light"? As you know, the PL function turns-on during night-time with the low beams.
To minimize the "miss-alignment" of the DRL/PL fitting for oncoming traffic, the boffins @ VW dim the lamp for the PL function. This dimming is done as a Leuchte-command, it's not a circuit restriction.
No, the PL dimming function is normally entirely separate to the dimming that happens with the turn-signal (which is called "DRL Wink")Don

2016 MK7, but here’s what I did for mine. DRL’s stay full brightness. I think this covers the inner U’s even tho mine doesn’t use them.

Well not quite perfectly....
Here is what I would like
Switch on "Auto" during daytime = Fogs, DRLs, Taillights (Fogs switchable) Switch on "Auto" during nighttime = Fogs, DRLs, Low Beams, Taillights (Fogs switchable) I never have to touch the switch and the fogs remain on day/night. Basically just the low beams comes on at night everything else remain the same.
I doubt it's possible but maybe someone know how to do it.

So with this code did it turn the Fogs on with the DRL's? I want to do that. I set it up so the DRL's stay on when you hit the turn signal but would like the fogs on with the DRL's too. thanks! I'm assuming you have the Pro version correct?

Hello, I have an golf 7 GTi 2014, xenon headlights with halogen daytime running lights. I already followed the tutorial and put the fog lights as daytime lights, but I did not like the result, I think the ideal would be to have only the fog lights as daytime lights, is it possible ?! Thank you
best regards

So the fog lights will turn on along with high or low headlights, even in automatic the selector switch. And fog switch on the panel will only act in selected half light. This is the option for: Fog lights operated with low or high beams.
