I've managed to get the dongle connected twice previously but not in the last few weeks. Every time I plug it in, start the app, turn on the ignition and then click connect and it just fails to connect.

Looking at the dongle I don't see any sign of life - is it meant to show an LED when its active (as I have seem some posts showing this?)

The Dongle is only a few minutes old.

Car Audi SQ5 - Tablet - Hudl2 running Android 5.1

Any ideas?

Yes you should see some led light blinking if the dongle is connected to the car.
The led is not the brightest so you maybe need to check it in a darker environment.

If however the dongle isn't working/showing a sign of life please contact your seller to get a replacement.
