2017 US Golf R. The 5F infotainment module is no longer in the list of control modules. Does not scan and am unable to see it. Cleared cache, deleted data, reinstalled app, etc.
I can see it in the control unit list offline.
Help!

^^^ Not sure if you are aware but the module that OBD11 calls the Gateway (@ address hex19) is the master controller for communicating with all of the other modules in your Golf R. I like to think about the Gateway module as the "Fat Controller" in Thomas-the-Tank-Engine, albeit the hex19 module does have other functions (like also being the Component Protection master). As a fundamental piece of software, the Gateway module uses a master table to determine which other modules it needs to communicate with. Before any communications begin on any of the car's 6 x CAN buses, these other modules MUST be registered in the Gateway installation list. This registration process normally happens at the factory depending on how the car is optioned - but the installation list can be modified if more options are added later.
I suspect (guess really) that somehow you managed to delete the hex5F module from the Gateway installation list. What is the color of the circle at the top RHS of the module? Probably the best way to confirm (and perhaps, fix) this is to follow my instructions below (apology for using the old OBD11 software screens, but it's exactly the same process with the current software):
Once you get to the Gateway list coding screen (2nd picture), scroll down and find "(5F) Information Control Unit 1" - Does the module have a tick in the box? If not, place the tick in the box and click on the OK button (@ the bottom-RHS of the screen). Exit OBD11, cycle the ignition key and re-start OBD11 again. Is it fixed?

Don -
Thanks for the post. I had checked the gateways before posting and 5F was checked so that's what had me stumped. I unchecked/rechecked to no avail.
After your post, I went back in and it was the same
However, this time I stumbled onto a drop menu in the gateway list and 5F was listed, so I tapped on it
None of the list in that sub menu were checked - I checked on 5F and everything is working again.
It would be interesting to figure out how it got changed. The gateway list is not something I recall ever being in before, let alone made any changes to it.
Thanks again for the reply as it ultimately got me on the right path.
-Steve

Don- Any idea why 5F now shows in the control module list with a black backgroud around the module #? It changes to green once you select the module.. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Clearing app cache, rebooting phone/radio, etc., have not cleared the blacked out 5F condition.

^^^ yes, certainly very odd behavior - perhaps posting-up the error message(s) that surely must exist on your scan report might be informative? And perhaps the latest records from your history file?

5F scans green once you select it from the list.
The 5F history log below goes from March when I had to re-code the blocked out settings to "not blocked" to the other day when I found 5F not in the list and started to monkey with getting it back. No faults were logged between March and then.
Another user on Vortex replied to my post there and said that his 5F was also missing and since re-added, does the same thing mine does, so it's not just me.

I have a NAR 2017 Golf R and 5F was missing after the latest obdeleven update or the version before it. It was missing from the gateway list so I found this thread and added 5F via the dropdown list. It appears in the module list now after connecting but the little circular icon in the top right shows a black background while the other modules show green or red. You can manually scan 5F and the icon changes. This behavior is different from when 5F was present before. What is the significance of the dropdown list versus the normal gateway list? Between the time I last saw 5F and it's disappearance, I did not make changes to the gateway list or 5F module. Is there a way to contact the author to determine if this is bug? I noticed other similar threads from 2017 but no solution.

^^^ wetmacular: Hmm, strange happenings indeed ........ may well be a software bug (as you suggest) - I note in vagpartsbin's history file the occasional MOST communications error in the hex5F module (i.e. the DTC about comms failure with the optical data bus). Does this happen in your car too and does the dynamic alter if you change the diagnostic mode?

I pulled 5F out of the glove box and did the quadlock cable disconnect. Cleared cache, deleted and reinstalled OBDEleven. Issue remains.

^^^ Vagpartsbin - don't give-up just yet - have you tried changing the diagnostic mode? Try each of the options and check the status of the colored circle on the hex5F module with each session

Don -
I did cycle through the modes to no avail. I know those show up in my history, but I didn't touch them until I after I got 5F restored. I was only in there looking for the BSM warning noise and side assist brightness options as mentioned in this thread:
I was hoping that the brightness adjustment in the above would actually be the solution to the painfully dim BSM lights in the mirrors.

Not sure if this will help but in my experience this is a bug in obdeleven, I’ve reported it months ago and they haven’t done sh!t about it lol. It’s nothing wrong with your car, you do not need to change the installation lists or anything. 5F never appears in my control module list until I open the list, then *refresh* by pulling down on the list, then suddenly it will be there. I’d undo all the coding you’ve done for this and just use the refresh workaround. Just my experience.

Hi wgolfmk7, that’s interesting. I’m not sure why ours would be different. Maybe because of the CP fault, the module always appears for you. I have the latest OBDeleven update as well and I always have to refresh the control module list to see 5F.

I agree, I hadn't done anything to the car in a while and out of the blue when I did want to do something, I found that the module was gone. I knew there was an update to the app recently, and I am (in my mind) blaming it on the update. I figured I'd ask here where the knowledge base is to see if it was something known or if there was a fix. Thx

I'm not sure. I'd have to do more testing to see if it's a bug or a problem with my phone. My 5F module doesn't have any errors, it's always green. It just doesn't appear in the list for me until the list is refreshed. I had a chat with the obdeleven support person inside the app a long time ago and I told them about what I found, but I never received a response.

I have a Skoda Superb 2012 and the OBD11 with Pro package. I cannot find the module 5F (which I need to reset the traffic information - TMC) even in the Gateway dropdown menu. Any ideas as to how I get to module 5F?
