Hello Friends,
a few months ago I changed my 5F Discover Media Head Unit because for DAB+. I coded most by my self, but I have 2 Problems. My Car is a Highline Golf 7 Facelift Modelyear 2017
First is the Highline Skin. It should be Byte 17 where I have 05. What can I do?
Second is the maximum Volume, I hope my description is right, it's not easy for a beer drinking and Kraut eating Bavarian ;-) The Volume is going step by step louder till it reaches 60% of the volume indicator. After that the volume is going not louder till. On the old head unit I had the same but the Indikator was there by 90% and the music was much louder than now. I have 8 Speakers. Coded is "sound_system_internal" Byte 11 and is set by 01. What can I do there?
Thanks for your help

^^^ a "beer drinking and Kraut eating Bavarian"? I've never met one of those - must be a very rare individual indeed!! So - not quite sure that I understand your skinning problem - why not change Byte 17 to a skin of your choosing? As to your volume issue - please tell us how the retro fitted 5F module handled Component Protection? Don

I seem to recall the volume problem is something to do with CP not been removed

Here in my village there are many of that :-)
The component protection was removed by the VW Dealer
Witch options I have when I change bit 17? I mean that highline background. Hope you know what I mean

OK - so I'm not aware of any facility in adaptation channels, or in long coding in the hex5F module that controls the linearity of sound level with the volume knob angle. Perhaps someone else here has the answer, but it sounds to me like a peculiarity of the new MIB unit. Was the new module a genuine VW head unit, or was it an after market unit?
You could try looking in the engineering screen for something suitable - but be careful and make sure that you take accurate notes of ALL changes that you make. The OBD11 history file does NOT record these changes - so reverting back the values could be problematic
As to the skin question, I don't have a list of which option gives what effect. Just experiment with the options and note the default setting - they are easily changed.\\

Hi.
For byte 17 Skinning I have two values. 1 or 2.
For byte 11 Sound System I have 1 Sound System Internal.
no idea for the volumen. Maybe a problem in the amplifier of the MIB unit?
Adaptation in 5F module.
check Base volume of speech output.... 50%

Ok re the volume, I found the post I was thinking off and they said “it’s a common problem that’s sorted by a firmware update from your dealer”

Thank u all for your help.
It's a used 5f main unit, I bought it from ebay. A new one is to expensive.
The volume is set by 50% I tried 100% with zero success.
In two weeks I bring him to the Workshop, to make the last things before he is out of Warranty. I hope they can update the Software. But I think that will not easy because this Main Unit should not in the Car and VW is so stupid when someone change some parts like me.

But you said vw removed CP so the German servers already know what you’ve done

Yeah they know it, the Diagnostic Tester said that the Hardware is not correct. He only removed the Component Protection but he was not able to make the Coding and the Anpassung. So I think he will say the same when I want to make a Software Update

Hi my Kraut-eating friend, Markus the beer drinking and würstl eating guy from Vienna here Byte 17 should be the one to active the carbon style, you're looking for byte 18: 00 - Highline
01 - Hybrid 02 - GTD 03 - GTI 04 - BlueMotion 05 - E-Golf 06 - R-Line 07 - Golf R
After changing the value you have to restart the MIB by pressing the on/off-button for about 10 seconds.
My Golf is MY19 and I've the same issue with the volume-bar, but haven't changed anything in coding or adaptions, so I think it's caused by a buggy firmware. Try to get an update from your VW dealer.
Let me know, if it's working later, otherwise I can have a look to the standard-coding in my 5F.
Best regards

Hello @ all and merry Christmas,
I tried much but my Problems with the maximum volume is still there. A vew days ago I changed the settings in the equalizer, but nothing happened there when I made some changes. Maybe anybody of u has now any idea? Could it be that in the car where my head unit was from had a plug and play subwoofer in the back?
The problem with the Highline skin is fixed, because this skin is since a vew model years not available. New Golf 7 Highline don't have this skin too.

bazi: I'm really not sure that I can help, but post-up a scan report so I can see the long-code strings on ALL your modules
