I wanted to share a lighting tweak I thought of while coding my new Euro tail lights. I dimmed down my license plate light brightness from value 127 to 25 - still perfectly visible and not as bright as stock, which I thought was stupidly bright. Then I realized that I couldn't see nearly as well in my reverse camera when reversing at night. But, why don't I simply restore the max brightness when in reverse!
- Module 09: Central Electrics - Adaptations - Leuchte25KZL (license plate lights) - Dimmwert AB 25 is set to 127 by default - max brightness. I have mine set to 25. - Now for the reverse part: - Set Lichtfunktion C 25 to Rueckfahrlicht. - Set Dimmwert CD 25 to 127. - Dimming Direction CD 25 should be maximize. - Apply your changes

So when backing up, the license plate lights will come on at full power?

^^^^ just a minor addition to 2018gti's excellent suggested tweak - the setting 127 should only be applied if the Lasttyp channel in the respective Leuchte-set has a setting with "LED" in its name (i.e. the lamp is LED type).
If the lamp is incandescent, the appropriate value is 100. But don't assume that using the lower value 100 for incandescent lamps somehow dims the light -it doesn't, 100 provides full illumination to incandescent lamps.
Although VW doesn't disclose how their Leuchte-commands work, my guess is that the hex09 module operates Pulse Width Modulation (this is the principle that's used by the BCM for dimming) for incandescent lamps in analogue mode and LEDs are operated in digital mode (because 127+0 =128 steps and this is equivalent to hex7F)
So - take care, or the Dimmwert channel will start to complain!!

Ah, thank you Don. I didn’t know the difference between 100 and 127. Good to know!

No incandescents on the exterior, but the trunk/hatch light is still a bulb.

Yeah I know that, but I was actually talking licence plate as in the subject of the thread 😉

Yeah I know that, but I was actually talking licence plate as in the subject of the thread 😉 Well, as I mentioned then: no incandescents on exterior. So the license lights are LED. Lol

That is a very useful tweak, thanks for sharing. I have been wondering that myself because the default is indeed ridiculously bright. You wouldn't happen to have a before/after photo? Also, If I understand it correctly, I can set the brightness to any number between 127 (100%) and 0 (0%), right? In my country it is probably illegal to have it too dim, so I would set it to something like 50% so I would not attract unnecessary attention.

baarecz Unfortunately don’t have a picture of it, it is very subtle though. Not like a night and day difference but it helps a bit.
