Hi guys, my MK7.5 GTI was specified with the QI wireless charging pad (in the cubby ahead of the gear lever). When the phone is charging i get a message on the top of the info screen on the head unit for a few seconds to say wireless charging active but then it goes off, and its then difficult to tell if the phone is charging or not.
I had a MK7.5 R (dealer demonstrator) a while ago whilst mine was in and that had the 9.2" Nav Pro fitted (mine has standard Nav 8"), and on that so long as the phone was charging you had an indicator logo in the top info bar on the head unit permanently. Anyone know if its possible to activate that on my Discover Nav head unit please ?

Does it say it’s charging if you plug it into the USB?

No nothing when plugging the phone in Via USB (other than either Android Auto or Apple car play booting up depending on which phone I use).
When charging wirelessly when placing the phone on the charging mat in the forward cubby, I get a little "QI" logo with the words "Wireless Charging of Phone started" on the main head unit. On the "R" I mentioned with the same wireless charging pad (genuine VW option) but with the upgraded Discover Nav, when the "Wireless Charging of Phone Started" disappeared from the head unit, the little QI charge logo would remain in the upper tital bar of the nav screen (where the phone battery logo usually is)

I just say that because I’m sure I get a battery indicator on my discover pro (may even be when I Bluetooth too)
The only thing I can see about wireless charging is wireless 1 and 2 under adaptions and byte 15 wireless charging availability under long codings

hmm........... I'm not absolutely sure, but I had understood that wireless charging is SWAP ( Software As Product - which means that it needs a dealer activation key - probably at a cost approaching the annual budget of a small African nation! ). Am I wrong in my understanding (entirely likely)? Don

Don He’s got wireless and a 8 in nav, the rental had wireless and a 9.2 in nav, his says charging via Qi then disappears, rental says charging via Qi all the time, he he wants to know if there’s a switch/adaption to make his nav say it’s on charge all the time like the rental,

Sorry Guys, been away for a couple of days. Just to clarify, this is a genuine factory fitted option and not an after market solution. Also as vwjap stated, I also had to have the aerial amplifier part of the option disconnected before I could take delivery of the car last year. In any case, here is the actual charging pad Here's what comes up on screen for a few seconds when charging starts And here's how it looks when the above message disappears off screen after a few seconds (no way to know if the phone is still charging)
On the loaner Golf "R" I had for a short while, the "QI" logo part of the message stayed on screen all the time whilst the phone was charging (but that car did have the 9.2" Nav Pro)

And what does the battery icon do, during charging battery?

|

It stays the same colour whether on charge or not, it does go up and down depending on whether it’s charging or not, but that doesn’t give you any real indication

Hi there, It sounds like you’re having a bit of a frustrating experience with the wireless charging indicator on your MK7.5 GTI. The fact that the charging notification disappears after a few seconds can make it hard to know if your phone is still charging. From what you've described, the continuous indicator on the 9.2" Nav Pro seems to be a feature of that specific head unit. Unfortunately, on the standard 8" Discover Nav system, this feature might not be available by default. However, there are a few things you could try: Software Update: Check if there is a software update available for your head unit. Sometimes, updates can add or improve features like the wireless charging indicator. OBD Coding: Some users have had success with enabling additional features through OBD coding. You might be able to enable a persistent charging indicator through this method. However, this would require some technical knowledge or assistance from a specialist. Aftermarket Options: If the in-built system doesn't meet your needs, consider an aftermarket wireless charger with a more visible indicator. Some wireless chargers provide a clear visual cue that your device is charging. Investing in a reliable wireless charger can also help ensure consistent charging performance, which might help alleviate some of the uncertainty. Hopefully, one of these options works for you! If anyone else in the forum has successfully activated a persistent charging indicator on the 8" Discover Nav system, it would be great to hear how they did it. Best regards, Max Fischer
