Hi I've got into the possibly bad habit of leaving my device in the docket in the car. Lazy me. Last couple of days battery has shown up low on startup and on checking down to 20%. Could the device be taking power when the car is locked up? Or should I look elsewhere. Obviously I've removed the device, got battery back up to 50% and then I'll go look later today. Any thoughts?

Yes don't leave it in the car unless you like jumping her.

It probably is, however I am surprised as the OBDeleven consumes roughly 0.5 watts. Not much at all!

It probably is, however I am surprised as the OBDeleven consumes roughly 0.5 watts. Not much at all! Autoinstruct: Hi. I suspect that the problem that folk face by leaving OBD11 connected to the car is'nt the additional demand from the battery caused by the dongle's native Bluetooth function - as you have said, 0.5 Watts load for a 10 hour period (say), will result in only a extra 5 Amp-hour demand, which is nothing for even a moderately healthy battery! Rather (and depending on the state of the OBD11 dongle), I suspect that the real problem here is what the dongle does to other components in the car. Specifically, I suspect that issue relates to the fact that the connection of the ODB11 dongle to the CAN Gateway stops all of the car's other control modules (and the suite of connected peripheral devices) from going-to-sleep. If you consider the aggregate demand from all of these components for even a few hours, it's not difficult to imagine a death-spiral scenario where the battery voltage quickly collapses!!! Don

Battery back to normal now, dongle safely stashed away when not needed. Lesson learnt😅 thanks all for your insights.

Yes I think DV52 is correct I plugged mine in this morning did a scan, left it in and about 12 hours later I got a low voltage warning from my tracker. When I checked my battery voltage was just below 8 volts and doors would not open. After putting it on charge the alarm sounded and the clock had reset. It's dark now so will leave it on charge overnight and then see what else I need to reset

Just remove the obd port fuse and connect it too a ignition live instead, then when you switch off the ignition the dongle isn’t active
