I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd share what I know about this topic.
It is possible to calibrate the speedo by changing the wheel circumference setting to adjust the reading of the speedometer. In the Dashboard unit, go to long coding and you will find Wheel Circumference. My B8 had Version 1 as default where the wheel circumference was set to 2056 mm for distance and 2138 mm for speed. By changing the setting to Version 3, both values were at 2056 mm. This can be checked through Live Data.
The selectable settings are; Version 1, 3, 4 and 6. The different values for the different versions are:
V1 Trip 2056mm Speed 2138mm
V3 Trip 2056mm Speed 2056mm
V4 Trip 2066mm Speed 2149mm
V6 Trip 2066mm Speed 2066mm
I use V6 for both my summer and my studded winter tires which are 235/45-18 (continental premium 6) and 235/50-17 (nokian hakkapeliitta 9) and my speedo is showing on the dot. V3 is for my studless winter tires which are 215/60-16 (continental viking 6) and with these tires the speedo is off by 1-2 kmh. Version 6 also works for 215/55-17.
For some reason, while calculating the circumference of tires with an online calculator, the theoretical circumference should be multiplied by ,985 to get the real measurement.

Hi, I confirm that setting for winter tyres 215/50 R16 the V3 option, fixes the problem and the car's displayed speed matches the GPS speed (~1km/h difference). A good tool to calculate the wheel circumference is www.wheel-size.com/calc/ (calculated value * 0.985 as mentioned earlier) Thanks Jere

I use tiresize.com/calculator/ and tiresize.com/comparison/ to calculate the required data. All of the mentioned sites work as good as any. For those who stick to stock tire sizes, here's a list of different sizes with their respective REAL circumferences: 215/60-16 2054 mm 215/55-17 2066 mm 235/45-18 2069 mm 235/40-19 2074 mm Tire inflation and tread wear will of course have some impact. Theoretically though, the difference between 2074 and 2066 mm is only 0,3% so theoretically it should mean a difference of only 0,3 kmh at 100 kmh. Another way to correct the speedo is by mounting larger tires. This will of course throw off all other data such as distance, fuel economy etc. I mounted 225/55-17 tires and with the default setting V1, the speedo was off by around 2 kmh at 100. When hitting the speed limiter at 230, my gps tracker showed me a true speed of 226.

Hi
I have a Passat B8 MY2017. Any advice if the long coding does not work for wheel circumference? Is there a security code, etc? I tried to swap my V1 to V3, but got an error "Function not available". I have about twenty different version options in the menu.
Does anybody know where to find information for those different version combinations?
Cheers

You have V1 to V20 as options in wheel circumference? If V3 says function not available, try the other options. To find out what the settings are for a specific Vx, go back the control module page and select LIVE DATA and select WHEEL CIRCUMFERENCE. To find out which setting is the best, please refer to my first reply in this thread.

hmm........a word of caution to ALL those that have contributed to this page and those that are considering modifying the factory speedometer settings on their cars Think about the consequences of telling the Dashboard module that the car has a different wheel circumference in the context of the impact on the odometer reading. And in particular, consider how changing wheel circumference impacts other stuff like the odometer reading Don't get me wrong - I'm NOT suggesting that making the "V number" change suggested in this thread is wrong - I'm simply saying that before proceeding with this tweak, make an informed decision! The Passat B8 is a MQB platform car and it shares the same DNA as other models like Golf mk7/7.5, Audi A3/8V and many other models. As has been observed when using this tweak on these other modules, the "V number" change is uni-directional and once the modification is accepted by the module, it's final! Meaning that it's ONLY possible to change to a higher "V number".
So - and this is the important aspect in making an informed decision to proceed with this tweak - it's not possible to revert the "V number" back to to the factory value.
My guess is that this restriction is implicated into the anti wind-back prevention protocols in the Dashboard module for the odometer reading. I'm not suggesting that the odometer reading is actually wound-back - but the forward distance traveled reading will be less than actual with a lower "V number " - I think
And conversely, increasing the "V number" will have the opposite effect - meaning that the distance traveled as measured by the odometer will increase more with higher "V"numbers. Yes, the magnitude of the additional increase will be small - but the odometer measures total distance traveled so the difference is cumulative over the life of the car. Again, I'm NOT suggesting that these small additions to the odometer reading is reason NOT to implement the tweak - I'm just providing information that should be included into the decision process (IMO, of course)

I changed it because it annoyed me that the speedometer showed 5km / h less than GPS and radar. I changed the parameter (Wheel circ) to 3 and now the speedometer shows perfectly, I've been driving like this for 2 years and everything is ok. Besides, I saw that in some models you can change the tire size on the MIB3 screen.

Where did you get the values fr v1,v3 and so on? Is there any value for 205x50 R17 (1971 mm)
