Anybody know how to do this ?
I get an error "tank lid activation" blah blah blah but it opens sometimes and other times I have to keep trying to open the damn thing until it does. A bit embarrassing at the pump.
Actuator probably needs replacing due to a faulty locking mechanism. I've tried squirting some WD-40 into the nozzle after taking the tank lid off. I've also tried sanding a bit of the edge from the plastic flap as someone has mentioned it's a common fault seems to have done the trick but still doesn't open up smoothly.
Cheers fellas! :-)

On my car (2014) under Access Control there is an option called Geschwindigkeitsabhaengige Tankdeckelverriegelung: or Speed-dependent fuel cap lock:

I think this adaption does not fit the problem - also, I might have heared that this kills the actuator, as it runs way more duty cycles than engineered.
I have seen a similar problem with my lid. My "workaround" was not to push it in until finally opens, but to pull with my fingertips after pushing once - that worked quite well. After doing this for some months, I found that some intense cleaning was needed to get it open smooth again, seems like a layer of dirt prevents it from opening - I do not remember where exactly it needed cleaning, I just wiped away a lot of oily dirt.
You can check if the locking mechanism is faulty: Open the lid, push the black pillar back in and back out several times - it should turn 90 degrees to release / catch the lid while moving. Locking the car will hold it in the "locked" place - you can still push it in to close...

Hi,
Sorry about the delayed response.
I tried both options and neither worked but thank you for your support guys.
I do get the "tank lid activation error" on the OBD scan. I'll have to find one on ebay or something and install it but at the moment, Sanding down the latch on the lid has done the job as it opens slightly and then I push it back in and then out.
I have cleaned it thoroughly including the actuator but it didn't last long enough.
Cheers fellas!
