I think you can't do this in Tiguan. That was possible in some Octavia 5E.

I would love to know how to do this also.
So far what I've gathered is if you have the power liftgate (trunk) and the 5 seater model, then you can open and close the trunk with the key fob and the switch on the driver's door. If you have a 7 seater (3rd row) model, then both the switch on the door and the key fob will not close the trunk...only open it. Something to do with safety, is the speculation.
Any help to figure this out would be extremely grateful. I find it strange they would disable is in the 7 seater model.

Because of the 7 seater being kid oriented they dont want you to shut it on a little one

Has anyone found a solution to this? I have a 2019 Allspace Highline, I would love to change it. Our 2012 CX9 (7 Seater) was able to do it...

On here always make sure which model you are actually referring to because they have lots of differences.

The safety logic is flawed...
I can use the 'Auto close' and walk away from the car and have the tailgate close.
The question is really about if there are settings to override the restriction, not a debate about why VW chose a specific default.
It is worth noting that the CX9 implementation also has a warning beeps too, while the tailgate is moving.

My 2018 came from factory able to open from about 30ft away and to close from about 5ft away using remote. Manual says that is correct for mine

In order to get this working on a 7 seater, you need to find someone with access to a system called ODIS(?), then you can upload the coding parameters from a unit without the third row and then program with OBD11.

You would need to load the 5 seat parameters, but keep in mind the reason the 7 seater model does not have this enabled via key and door switch is due to the location of passengers in relation to the hinge. All it takes is a kid in the 3rd row put their hand up and bye, bye fingers or hand. 7 seater here and even though I know it can be done, I won't do it since young kids don't have the best sense.

Kick to open module is present in MY18 and MY19 if you have Easy Open, Kick to close is not present, tried to get it configured but does not work. If you look at MY20 it's present and the button arrangement is different due to this change.

Can be only done if you change the dataset with Odis or Vcp.
