So I just got my OBDEleven today and I have been trying to figure out what will or will not work on my car. I tried to look around on the forums here and other places to find out how I can tell this. So I have a few questions if someone could help that would be great. Thanks in advance and sorry if this was posted but did not see anything.
1. Why do I see all these videos with tons of one-click Apps such as Urban Joke, Disable headlight washers, etc. Yet I do not see them? I have a NA 2017 Golf R and a NA 2017 Golf GTI Sport and there is only a handful of Apps available compared to what I see youtube videos.
2. How can I tell what will or will not work on my car for long coding? There are so many variations by region and also seem to be mention of a central control unit rewrite (some about Access 2 vs Kcomfort as an example)
3. When I first setup my Golf R I was able to select between 2012-2017 and just 2017. I selected 2017 but wonder if I should have selected 2012-2017. Does anyone know what the difference is or how to change it? When I try to edit it in the app the Model section is grayed out.

It’s all down to what modules and parts you have in your car fella, vw change them along the way to introduce new features, but you can get a m7 with mk7.5 modules, or you can get a mk7 with the earlier mk7 modules just depends when the car was built and how long it kicked around before being sold,

Sounds like there is no easy way to identify that stuff then. Thanks for the response.

Easiest way I can think of is go into central electronics and see if it has zv of access control, access control is the earlier version and zv is the newer one (7.5)
And I think if you mail obdeleven telling them you’ve selected the wrong car they will Change it for you on their server

I also think in Central Electronics on the pre facelift cars you have long coding, on the facelift its all 00000000 and you cant change anything.

^^^ Ron: just a point of clarification (please): you are certainly correct in your assertion that somewhere between the later model mk7s and the introduction of the FL mk7 (mk7.5?), the good Burghers @ VW made a decision to remove the code-string software switches from the module @ address hex09 (which is variously known as the BCM, or the Central electrics module depending on which diagnostic device is being used).
However, the fact that these latest modules return a zero code string doesn't mean that "you can't change anything" - it just means that you can't use the long coding function in OBD11 (or VCDS, or VCP) to make the desired changes. Importantly, while the long coding facility is no longer accessible in these modules, most (ALL?) of the software switches that were previously available can now be accessed using OBD11's adaptation facility. It's just a matter of finding the correct descriptor among the 2,500-ish adaptation channels in these newer BCMs -it's not difficult really, but it does require a bit of experimentation and a modicum of intuition IMHO! Don
PS: It's interesting (to me, at least) to speculate why VW made this change (i.e to remove the code-string from the BCM). I don't know the answer - if anyone here has first-hand information, or a hypothesis why this has happened, I'm all ears!! . My own uninformed hunch is that this happened because the code-string on newer modules was becoming too long (i.e too many Bytes). I have seen the Byte-count on newer ABS modules (@ address hex03) increase to 47 Bytes!! - perhaps this is the reason?

Don as always you take the time to explain correctly, thank you.
Just off at a tangent but the good guys at SEAT are having major issues with the new european WLTP test's and they are having to deliver new cars with older engines as the latest 300 series engine is proving difficult to pass.
I also see more car models are being removed from sale (across the VAG Range) 3 Doors seem to be on the way out and Manuals are also getting harder to find on the bigger engine models.
Have you heard if the Golf is suffering the same problems.

I was able to get OBDeleven to change my car and all the apps appeared as they should. So thanks for the tip on that vwjap . Most the long coding I have done works but just might be under a slightly different spot or name. The biggest down side I have seen is the lack of access to Control Unit 17 which I know has been covered in other threads about the security code changing. =[ .. Thanks all for the info everyone.. Being new to OBDeleven it is great to have such a good community for support!

I have a question. I’ve watched countless videos and seen the reverse mirror dip function work on MK7’s but when I tried to select it on mine it said “unsupported” and doesn’t give me the option to unlock it under the apps. I have a 2017 mk7. I tried to look for it the long coding way too and after accessing the control unit I don’t have the option of selecting “access control 2”. It doesn’t even appear under the list. When I initially set up my vehicle with OBDeleven I set it up as a 2012-2017 golf GTI. Anyone know why this is happening? I also couldn’t use the app for the open/close windows from remote feature either.

You need electrical seats for mirror dipping otherwise it won't work properly.

aaron:the explanation is simple - the "Parent Name" for the 2 x adaptation channels are not in your Central electrics module (@ address hex09). There was a major change to the database structure of this module for the MY16 mk7s - so your veichle is captured by these changes. Instead, try searching for Spiegelverstellung. Then continue with the instructions Don
PS: also, you will need to have the memory module installed in the passenger-side door for the tweak to work properly. The memory module is used to hold the "X"/"Y" position of the return coordinates for the mirror. Without this facility, the mirror won't return to its proper position. Here's how to test if your passenger side fitting has a memory module:
