Swapped the mk5 climatronic for the mk6 one. Need to do a basic setting and ac first run in. Tried to connect to the ac module but can't. Can connect to other modules as normal. Any ideas what could be the issue? *07 GTI

I'm willing to guess that your 2007 GTI has the OLD (pre-Revision "L") gateway. The other interesting thing to note is that about 1 or 2 wires need to be de-pinned and swapped to get the climatronic unit to "remember" the last temperature that was set before the ignition when the ignition is switched off. I have a 2008 GTI (post revision L) and will soon be attempting the MK6 update myself. I'm willing to bet that your issue is with the Gateway module being "old" (pre-revision "L"). There isn't anything to "code" in these modules, just output tests and adaptations to be done. I'd be curious to know if a genuine VCDS cable produces the same result. Does your scan explicitly state that the module is not connected, or just an implausible communication?

It starts, runs for 5-10 seconds then shuts off. Shows two faulty modules. Radio ( I have an aftermarket unit) and the ac module. Try to connect and it says "control unit not responding". Is there a eat way to determine which gateway I have through Obd11? My plans are to have my shop connect with vagcom to see of they still get the same message..

Is there a eat way to determine which gateway I have through Obd11? Yes, looking at the Advanced ID of module #19 will tell you.

Looks like I do have the pre revision L.. I'll have to see if vagcom has the same communication issues then look at updating..

You have a revision-K. Revision "L" resolved the battery drainage issues with installing newer MK6 radios in the MK5. I'm reading online to see if your revision-K is causing the issue with your HVAC system. Do you have access to a MK6 Golf gateway to borrow for a few minutes to test again? You wouldn't need to recode it if that "donor" car already has a climatronic unit installed as well.

I'm leaning towards heading to the pick n pull and just grabbing a newer gateway, from possibly an 08+ mk5 or one of the mk6 jettas. Then I would only have to make sure the new gateway is recoded to the options (checklist in obd11) on the old one, correct?

Correct, BUT do not simply "copy & paste" the previous coding from your existing unit (as the version would be different). You can do the checklist method you mentioned above for Gateway #19. I envy you for having a pick & pull, as we don't have such luxuries here in Jamaica. We only have junk yards for older vehicles such as 1995 and earlier. If I were in your shoes I'd retrofit every possibly MK6 part on my MK5 Golf. www.my-gti.com/2296/can-bus-gateway-removing-installing-and-upgrading-volkswagen-golf

There was an L revision but this one should be the more up to date of the two.. I'll have to swap it out once I feel sure I know what I'm doing on the coding end..lol

Give me the hardware / software number for YOUR Climatronic unit. I'm about to order this online and retrofit in my car: "5K0907044EA" Also please give me the part number for the surrounding bezel that you got as well. I'm trying to find something that matches my Anthracite coloured dashboard.

These are the parts I ordered. The bezel didn't have a part number in the description but came from a 2010 jetta..

I'm still stunned that you were able to find this for $17.58 and the bezel for so cheap. Which site is this or App that you purchased through?

I just got around to installing the revision gateway. Copied the coding list from the old. When checking off items in the coding list for the revision gateway there was one missing, (00) Steering angle sensor. The new code list starts at (01).
I can finally communicate with the a/c module and may have solved my a/c issue..
But I am also getting an error. Gateway incorrectly coded. I'm wondering if this has to do with the steering angle sensor or the fact that I have an aftermarket radio (Eonon)?

Does your ABS work fine under heavy braking such as an emergency stop? Does the steering wheel movement feel the same even on rough roads? If so, I'd ignore THAT error. It may clear after a long test drive. As for your radio, did you remember to code your car to to say that it does not have a radio installed (especially if not used with steering wheel controls)?

Everything works as it should from my 15minute drive across town to work this morning. I didn't code it to not have a radio installed. I'll have to give that a shot, but the Eonon unit works with the steering wheel controls. Would unchecking radio effect that? Thanks

I believe the Eonon unit has some CAN functionality like the OEM radio. I'd suggest leaving the radio settings as they are now and ignoring the error code (for the radio).

Ended up going back to the mk5 climatronic.
With the updated gateway I was finally able to communicate with the ac module. Performed basic settings and compressor first run in but the ac issue still remained.

Can you afford to buy another MK6 climatronic model from your local Pick&Pull to test? I'm taking a gamble that the MK6 climatronic module you bought has an issue. Did you buy it new in packaging? ...or was it used from your local Pick&Pull? If used, then you may have to get the matching gateway from the same donor vehicle just to be sure.
I find it strange that you can do the basic settings and output tests, but it doesn't work by itself (without OBDeleven connected).
