Have seen lots of people with issues on Android 8 although I have to say not with connecting more about emailing backup logs.
So firstly do the usual Clear App Data and Bluetooth Data on your phone, I also personally turn the phone off for a minute or two and then restart can help.
Next unpair your phone and dongle.
The firmware was updated as part of the 0.9.2.6 release so if you cant get it to work then go to Google play and leave the Beta testing team and it will reverse the firmware upgrade and you should be able to log back on.
Lastly make sure you have good internet connection and that you have not hidden your phone or bluetooth settings on the car as this has caused issues in the past.

as above have you cleared you app data and if possible your bluetooth data on the phone. I did some testing yesterday on a Huawei phone and had lots of issues, I resolved it buy turning off the bluetooth on my head unit (not saying that's the answer but it worked for me). What I would do (if it were me) is app and bluetooth clear, Turn the phone right off for a few minutes and restart. Turn off the bluetooth on the car (as my phone connects with the car before the oBD11 Dongle) Then Conect to the dongle and when you get the update message press Update. If that does not work then raise the issue here forum.obdeleven.com/thread/3445/9-3-1 so that dev will not miss the issue. Please provide the details of your car, phone, android version and make sure you have strong internet connection when doing the update One last point make sure you have a strong internet connection to download the data.

If I clear the app data (not just the cache), do I lose all my obdeleven settings, garage, history, etc ? [Using OnePlus 5 with Android 8.0.0]

app data i seem to recall only holds your logon details and might have some of the settings in your profile (not tested it in a long time) However Garage and History of cars is all stored on OBD11 Servers against your account. If this does not work then update the forum.obdeleven.com/thread/3445/9-3-1 thread with full details of your car and phone to see is support can help
