Hello Everyone,

I have a problem, maybe someone can help me here
I have a problem with my navigation GPS position for two weeks.
When I set a route, it does not recognize the current position, the navigation position keeps spinning from position.
I have read the car, I do not see any error messages in the OCU 75 telematics and also not on the 8107 Antenna.

I replaced a battery on October 26 and coded it according to the procedure with OBDeleven.

Could this have something to do with the fact that the calibration of the navigation has disappeared?

When I look at my scans from June 28, 2021, I see under telematics 75.

Now my question is, is the problem with the hawk antenna on the roof 5WA 035 507 E or is it with the control unit under the antenna 5WA 035 741 B.

I dont now if the control unit is equipped with SFD.
I bought a second-hand copy.
What is the procedure if I want to replace it myself with OBD eleven SFD protection
Can I connect this to test whether it is due to this control unit without activating sfd and can I later replace the old control unit without the sfd hassle.

I hope someone can help me with tips

Have the car sit for some time perhaps in a open spot where it has good reception. I had the same issue that it would completely lose GPS positioning. It started to work on it's own after couple of days. It is frustrating, but I would try it before replacing a expensive aerial, especially as you car sees satelites with a good signal strength.

Additionally, you can try to deep restart the electronics by removing the positive battery terminal with front lights turned on. Leave the battery disconnected for 10 minutes then reconect it and turn the car back on. With the car running (and spitting every error message it can...), turn the steering wheel completely (to end points) to recalibrate the steering wheels sensor.

it's been the same for over a week now.
it keeps trying to go to two satellites and then it drops to 0, very frustrating.
can vw recalibrate the gps with odis?
i suspect it started after i replaced the battery but i can't say for sure.

disconnecting the positive pole with the light on is the first time i hear it.
i can try it, 4 days ago i disconnected the negative pole for 15 but this didn't help.

i have disconnected the positive pool for 10 minutes.

Yours is the second mention of this type of problem that I've encountered recently. And in both instances, the problem has arisen after a new battery has been installed!

I was able to suggest a simple procedure to fix the problem in the other case (which happened on a late,"Yankee" model Golf mk7.5) - so maybe it will also work for you.

But first - let my explain why I believe that changing the battery is the cause of this problem.

The Telematics module is called J949 in the wiring diagram and it's long-form name is Emergency call module control unit and communication unit - but I will use "J949" for brevity in this reply!

J949 shares a special feature with the Brake module on MQB/MQB-evo platform cars in that both modules have a backup power supply. For the Brake module, the backup is used in case the primary battery wires are cut in a collision. I suspect that J949 also has a backup supply for a similar reason.

Because backup batteries need to be periodically replaced, it is impractical to use an actual battery as the backup power supply for these modules. Instead, an electronic component called a "super capacitor" is used - this is a very low loss capacitor that is able to hold-up the voltage on the module for a short time after the primary power is lost.

When the primary car battery is replaced on a Golf mk8 (meaning NOT the 48V lithium-ion battery) - the back-up power supply in J949 completely drains because of the time that the car loses volts in the change-over procedure.

I don't know with absolute certainty - but I suspect that the problem for J949 is caused when the new battery is re-connected to the car's electrical system. When this happens, voltage to the car's modules in general instantaneously rise. However, the voltage to the J949 circuits is not able to do the same because the characteristics of a "super capacitor" enforces slow charging - so full-volts to J949 is delayed. A principal function of J949 is the ability to synchronize with the other modules on the CAN network (especially, the Convenience CAN bus).

My guess (emphasis on "guess") is that it's this mismatch in the establishment of full Volts that causes J949 to be incorrectly reset.

OK - now for the fix. My suggestion is - with the primary 12Volt supply to the other modules in the car established and stabilized - completely discharge the back-up power supply again and then allow the "super capacitor" to re-charge. I believe this will properly reset J949 and module will re-start correctly.

Because my procedure is an easy try - I reckon that it's worth a shot on your car!

With Ignition-OFF

Open the driver door.
To the left and below the steering wheel, open and remove the pull out compartment door by pressing the detent lever inside/above. This exposes the fuse box - see below:
Remove the 7.5 amp fuse in position SC19 - see above to identify fuse position. The instrument cluster losing power is an indication that the proper fuse was pulled
Wait 5 minutes with the fuse out to allow the internal backup power supply for J949 (Emergency Call Module and Communication Unit) to completely discharge.
Re-insert the fuse into the slot and reinstall the pull out door.
Switch the vehicle ignition-ON and observe the 3 button module for 2 minutes.
- If the green light illuminates, the process was successful.
- If the green light is not illuminated after 2 minutes -switch the vehicle engine-ON and keep the vehicle running outside for an additional 20 minutes to allow the process to complete.
After 20 minutes:
- If the green light is illuminated, the process is complete.
- If the green light is not illuminated, switch the vehicle OFF and contact VW
