Hello, is it possible to deactivate Front Assist? If I want to drive into the garage, I have up to 3 emergency stops.
Thanks

I think that's due to front PDC sensors. I have the same issue backing up in my driveway if the grass is taller You can try to go into Parking Menu (P on the touch button in console) and there's a little option there: disable auto-break or something like that.

I think that's due to front PDC sensors. melkool : I don't think that the front assist system (front emergency braking) makes any use at all of the parking sensors, meaning, the little round buttons on the front exterior of the car. Those are only used for park distance control (very slow speed detection of objects that are within about 2 metres / 6 feet of the front bumper). At the rear of the car, the rear emergency braking makes use of two large sensors that are behind the bumper cover and not visible from outside the car. I don't know exactly what sensors the front emergency braking relies on, but my guess is that it is probably a combination of the camera in the windshield (above the rear view mirror) and the radar or lidar sensor behind the VW logo on the grill. I am, however, confident that front emergency braking does not use information from the park distance control sensors, simply because those sensors have such a short range. Michael

You do not have an issue with Emergency assist but your park sensors. Sometimes this happens when dirt or water (after a car wash) lodge between the sensor body and the rubber ring that seperates the sensor from the bumper. A trick that always did it for me was to spray penetrating oil (WD-40 or equivalent) onto the rubber ring around the sensor. This helps dislodge any dirt and forces out water that also might interfere with sensor operation. WD-40 won't affect your car paint by any means. It is just a little bit oily, so I would spray it before you wash the car.

Hi Pan, We are talking about two different things! Front Assist works from 20 or 30km/h and above up to 210km/h. It relies on radar behind the VW logo (on MK8). PDC is responsible for maneuver braking (and includes low speed entering/exiting premises, parking, etc).
Those "hidden sensor behind the bumper" are used for something else. Rear Trafic Alert, Rear Collision, Lane change and whatever functions they have. My car does not have those (as it's missing RTA) but still brakes by it's own due to PDC detecting grass, curbs, cats, dogs and of course large object (pedestrian, cars, walls).
So they are two different sistems: low speed maneuver it's based only on PDC. Please prove me otherwise if I'm wrong.

Hi Melkool:
You and I agree about everything. Perhaps I did not write my post clearly enough, or perhaps you misinterpreted it when you read it.
