Dear all,
As mentioned in some earlier posts, I own an A6 C8 45 TDI MY 2020 with ACC and Lane assist.
I’m quite disappointed with actual “torque-based” hands detection when ACC& Lane Assist are activated… Even with my both hands on the steering wheel (as I always do), I’m always asked to keep hands on wheel…. I use ACC+ lane assist on motorway only. It is quite straight all the time so I don’t apply any torque with my hands on steering wheel and Lane Assist thinks I dropped it… So I have to make some steering inputs even when it’s not useful and driving experience is very bad. I can’t imagine I’m the only one feeling this.
I’d like to get rid of this torque-based detection (in a better way than using a water bottle stuck in the steering wheel ….). I don’t understand how Audi development engineers allowed to bring that feature to market…
I discovered that latest C8 (from facelift) have a capacitive sensor which really detects if driver’s hands are on the steering wheel !
I found a Swedish company which offer a retrofit kit + remote support for coding. I don’t know if this can be coded with OBDEleven or not.

I’ve been in contact with them by mail and it seems serious. I have been told that they can retrofit a capacitive touch steering wheel on my vehicle. (Either from RS6, or latest Audi vehicles) .As it is quite expansive, I’m still hesitating…
Does any one here know if this kind a retrofit is really feasible? Does someone already experienced it?
and last question to recent A6 C8 owners: does this capacitive touch sensor bring good / satisfying driving experience while Lane Assist is activated?
thanks for any comments or feedback!
