Hi, I'm seeking advice regarding an issue with my 2017 Golf MK7 analog instrument cluster. When I scanned it with OBD Eleven, a fault code (B200041 - Ctrl. Faulty Module) showed up. However, everything seems to be functioning normally, and there are no fault entries in the MIB unit either.

I've tried erasing the fault, but I'm unable to (photo attached). I tried getting this sort at the dealer and mechanic but was given the same advice in which i need to replace my instrument panel🥲. I've also included the full scan below: appreciate the assistance.

I'm not sure what type of "advice" you are seeking! Clearly your SCAN is reporting a faulty Dashboard module - so this problem is almost certainly NOT caused by a coding error and it's unlikely to be the result of a wiring issue. Is the Dashboard module speaker working ?

As a suggestion that might (emphasis on "might") shed light on the exact aspect of the instrument cluster that has caused the error - try this:

Ignition -ON, Engine-OFF
Fire-up OBD11 software and connect to the car
On the Home screen - press the highlighted button below:
On the Control Units screen, select the Dashboard module
Scroll-down and select Output test
Activate each of the functional tests listed - particularly Gong (0144)
Do any tests fail?

PS: This car needs a Steering Angle Senor (SAS) re-calibration!! See procedure below (which is for VCDS - but the steps are the same for OBD11)

I tried the output test and all seems to be working just fine. I did the basic setting as per video. However, the B200041 is still there and unable to clear.

I did a search and found that "This fault B200041 is common in Instrument Clusters immediately after third party tools were used to match keys. If the Instrument Cluster is non-functional with this DTC stored it should be replaced"

Kind of extreme to replaced the whole control unit just to resolve this.

It might well appear "kind of extreme to replace the whole control unit just to resolve this" - however, the problem with a B200041 - Ctrl. module faulty error is that the diagnostic function that OBD11 uses is meant to identify faults at a component level only. It is not designed to diagnose sub component (meaning intra-module) failures.

I guess you could remove the Dashboard module and send it to a specialist (if you could find one) to investigate further.

The problem with replacing the dashboard module is that it also contains the vehicle's immobilizer - so the module is pivotal to the keying/security function for the car. Plus the Dashboard module is also included in the Component Protection (CP) constellation. CP is an enhanced security feature that VW applies to key modules - VW says that CP is intended to combat the black market trade in stolen parts.

CP means that any replacement module must be authorized for the car's VIN by the central servers on the VW mother-ship - which normally means a visit to a dealer!

Or, given the words in your first post "however, everything seems to be functioning normally, and there are no fault entries" - maybe just ignore the error until (if?) the fault becomes binding?

PS: As for the SAS error - try completing the same video procedure in the 03 Brakes module (instead of the 44 module)
