I have a 40th AE mk8 in North America and this has happened a few times with one of which was during a trip from NJ to Texas with the passenger side dome light turning on and off for hours at a time. Engine cycling had no effect and after much frustration I think I narrowed it down to the capacitive touch sensors must be reading false presses on the light. I can close all windows and get the interior temperature to where the problem stops. I then open the windows again and the problem will continue. Is there a way I can code out the dome lights so I can enjoy evening rides with my windows down?

Hi Tex:
Welcome to the forum community. I don't know if it is possible to disable (via coding) the capacitive touch system in the passenger reading light, but I do know it is possible to have VW replace the entire front reading light assembly under warranty if you report this problem and are still in warranty. Others have reported the same problem, and that it was solved with a component replacement at no charge.
