Hi all, not sure if this is the correct place to ask but im just wondering if my car has a light sensor as when I go in tunnels or anything like that with just DRLs on my dash dims however I don’t have the auto lights switch so just wondering if I already have the sensor in place and just need a new switch? Thanks

First- I assume that this car has NOT been modified after it left the factory
I guess anything is possible - but my very strong hunch is that if this car does NOT have a rotary-light-switch with an AUTO position, it almost certainly does NOT have a sensor that measures outside light levels.
And in any event - if this car has a light sensor, it will be obvious because the (Rain) Light sensor is glued to the front windshield behing the rear vision mirror - see below
The reason for your observation that the "my dash dims" is because this car has a second type of light sensor that lives in the dash. This second light sensor is a photo-transistor. I'm not sure where the second light sensor situated on this car because it depends on the type of instrument cluster - but on another model MQB platform vehicle it's as shown below:
The second light sensor looks inside the vehicle - whereas the light-sensor on the windshield looks outside. The photo-transistor changes the dash illumination according to the amount of light INSIDE the cabin - so when you enter a tunnel, "my dash dims"

Thanks for the reply Don, I didn't realise there was a secondary light sensor that is in the dash its self so that clears it up 👍. The main reason I want the light sensor is for the proper coming/leaving home lights since I am currently using your version of it that is working well but my main concern is if I'm getting my car detailed or anything with the interior lights on for a while the battery may die, other than that it has been flawless so thanks for that. Not really the end of the world not having auto lights though Thanks
