Hello, I have a friend that bought a car tiguan 2019 and it should have tow bar on it when she bought it. It didnt have it so the company had to install one. Trailer lights working and that stuff. it was a few years ago she bought it and I just heard when they installed the towbar some thngs stopped working.
is it possible to code it in someway? Is it trailer assist? (one click app?)
She doesnt have the instructions from when the company installed it.

Hi,
This might not be the same situation as yours but we recently had a factory tow bar fitted to our 2019 Tiguan. They main difference is with a factory OEM fit they install a thing called a tow bar kit (which is the same price as the tow bar itself). My understanding is the tow bar kit enables the integration into the car ECU so cars knows when a trailer is attached, this in turn disables the rear parking sensors, adjusts breaking, engine response and a bunch of other stuff when a trailer is attached.
Of course if you are only using the tow bar for carrying a bike rack then its probably not with the extra $$
So unless you have this tow bar kit then I don't know if there is any coding to be done. I'm not a mechanic so could be very wrong though.

skuggis : Hi. I'm not really able to help because you haven't provided any specific information about the lost functionality, or the type of equipment that the "company" retrofitted to this car. Installing a towbar on a MQB platform car (like this Tiggy) can be done in many ways! For example: - Was the towbar OEM - or a third-party product.
- If the latter, what type of towbar control module was installed (if any)?
- What EXACTLY were the "things [that] stopped working"?
As for your question about "Trailer Assist" - this is an entirely different facility to the standard tow-bar. With trailer assist, the driver uses the side mirror controls to guide the trailer - see video below:
And finally - yes, if a towbar module is installed in a Tiggy, coding changes are normally made to the new module, the Engine module and the Dashboard module
