Need some help with a Golf mk7 Japanese import. Only just bought and started using OBDeleven so not off to a good start... Everything originally worked but I have now seem to lost function to media player with 'control unit not responding' in App. All I changed was radio frequencies from Japan to Europe but have since put them back and deactivated stop/start but reverted that. Any ideas how I get it working again? OBDeleven_Log.txt (220.74 KB) Have attached history. Unit is a MIB1 Discover Pro and I have a new MIB2 on the way to replace it but I'd like to get it working, understand what went wrong, know what to do if MIB2 breaks etc.

First: let's deal with the apologies upfront so there is no confusion. Don't take offense to any of my words below because none is intended (I'm just trying to answer your questions)
So, from my review the History records for this car - there appear to be 2 x important events that I suspect were critical in the life of the 5F-Mulimedia module.
Let's start with the changes that happened to the long-code string in the records with the date/time stamp: 2024-02-26 13:45
Here is a tabular form of the 2 x records in your History file
Name Original Now Byte Hex Binary Hex Binary 00 02 00000010 02 00000010 01 73 01110011 73 01110011 02 00 00000000 00 00000000 03 06 00000110 06 00000110 04 FF 11111111 FF 11111111 05 00 00000000 00 00000000 06 00 00000000 00 00000000 07 00 00000000 00 00000000 08 21 00100001 21 00100001 09 33 00110011 11 00010001 10 00 00000000 00 00000000 11 01 00000001 01 00000001 12 00 00000000 00 00000000 13 10 00010000 10 00010000 14 00 00000000 00 00000000 15 00 00000000 00 00000000 16 1F 00011111 1F 00011111 17 01 00000001 01 00000001 18 00 00000000 00 00000000 19 36 00110110 36 00110110 20 01 00000001 01 00000001 21 00 00000000 00 00000000 22 01 00000001 01 00000001 23 00 00000000 00 00000000 24 76 01110110 76 01110110
Notes:
- Remember that for the Binary Number columns - Bit 0 is the right-most digit and Bit 7 is the left-most digit, so Binary numbers are read from right-to-left
- Original in my table is the "old value" in your earlier record and Now in my table is the "new value" in the more recent record - both for the date/time above.
Notice that Byte 09 is now different to the earlier value. This Byte sets-up the frequency bands for the FM and AM radios. Originally, the 5F module was programmed for Rest-of-World (RoW) frequency bands - but Now, it is set-up for BOTH RoW and North America Region (NAR). You can't have both!! I suspect that this is the reason for the U101400 - Control module incorrectly coded error
Next - I refer to the record with the date/time stamp: 2024-02-26 11:41
Clearly for some unknow reason, you selected Developer mode and you left the adaptation channel Developer testmode > activated. This appears to be the first record where B201A00 - Checking software version management and U10CD00 - Optical data bus for TV tuner appear. The ONLY market where VW offered a TV Tuner for the Golf mk7 was in Japan
When in Developer testmode, OBD11 does NOT record any changes that are made to the module - did you make any changes? Maybe revert the channel value back to not activated

Thanks for the concise reply I'll try find the time to have a look at the settings for the radio.
I can't remember exactly what it was set to but fairly sure it was Japan, I remember it have a few stations in the memory for this. I originally used the drop down menu to pick from a selection of different regions and there was 2 options. FM and AM so tweaked these. Changing these moved the frequency up and I could then tune in UK frequencies and it worked. Then at a later point I noticed it all complaining and lost the module.
It wouldn't then let me use the 'menu' to pick a different region so I was left with looking at the history and trying to match the codes from a screenshot, then I think after this it was back to letting me picking it from the menu list but it did become a confusing blur of trying to roll it back. A feature update on the OBDeleven app to pick an entry out of the history and choose 'revert' would be most welcome.
Regarding the 'developer' thing, at some point the app wouldn't let me update anything, I kept getting function not available or something similar, so it might of been from then. Should I just leave it in 'VW Diagnostics' mode the default then? What's preventing me from updating the settings?

Should I just leave it in 'VW Diagnostics' mode the default then? hmm....... each of the different "Service modes" has its purpose and it's important to select the correct mode depending on what type of coding change that is being attempted. That said, yes - for most changes to long-code strings and adaptation channels, "VW diagnostics" is the appropriate setting What's preventing me from updating the settings? I have no idea!! These type of exercises (i.e. retrofitting a 2nd-hand MIB/MMI to a car with another region) is like peeling an onion - after exposing and fixing one problem, another problem is revealed !!
