Is it possible to get the TCU Bootloader version from OBDeleven? I hear that if you have BLvXXXX0301, you can get a TCU tune at the moment. If you have BLvXXXX0401, it's going to be a long wait.
It would be nice to know what I have.

I've asked reps from Unitronic and APR and they both said it's impossible to tell bootloader version by anything you find on OBDeleven. Mine is 401 and how you find out is you flash your TCU with the tune and if the car doesn't start you know your bootloader is 401. That's the only way. The problem they're facing in cracking 401 is RSA encryption, the same encryption that protects your bank account online. It's virtually impossible to crack and there's a distinct possibility no tuner will ever find a way to get around it either. Of course nobody will ever tell you that because they'd rather keep selling their ECU tunes by giving people false hope that at some point they can pair it with a TCU one.

What would that person do if they attempted the tune and the car doesn’t start? I’m not such a person I’m actually running the tune lol

Nothing. Flash back to stock. That's what I did.

Ah. I thought the security included not being able to flash back to stock even since it’s not VW’s equipment doing the flashing. Thought that was part of the security. Guess not
