A about a year ago (before ever using OBDeleven, actually) I cleared a check engine light in my 2021 Jetta GLI Autobahn 6MT using a generic OBDII BT adapter with the TorquePro app.
From that point onward, the behavior of the start button changed.
Prior, all I had to do was briefly tap the start button once and the starter would automatically turn over until the engine fired up. Now, I need to hold the start button down while the starter turns over until the engine fires.
I took it to the dealer and they opened a case with VW who in turn told them the button is functioning normally and there's nothing that can be done to change it back. This issue has come up in various VW forums and other places on the internet but there doesn't seem to be any kind of a fix. My assumption is that the issue must lie within the vehicle software somewhere because my dealer also replaced the starter button itself, but this resulted in no change.
I am curious if there are coding or adaptations within OBDeleven to change this back to the way it worked before??

***FOUND A FIX!!!*** So as luck would have it I decided to search one more time after posting and located a thread from shawsvw who was having a similar issue with their '19 Golf R, and it turns out the root cause of the problem (at least in our scenarios) is the presence of an aftermarket clutch pedal stop installed. My guess is this somehow interferes with the startup checks the vehicle performs since the pedal is no longer able to go fully to the floor. Just a hunch. Here's how to resolve: *I think it's very important to point out it seems you MUST clear the codes, even if there are none, becuase I failed to do so the first time around and was unable to resolve the issue* Here are the steps I took to make the fix work: 1.) remove clutch stop 2.) start vehicle and connect to OBDeleven 3.) perform a full scan and clear all codes 4.) shut off vehicle and exit 5.) lock the doors from the outside then unlock them 6.) get back in the vehicle and push clutch to floor and hit the start button once - issue should be cleared now 7.) reinstall clutch stop Enjoy your newly-restored functionality!
