Hello, apologies if this has already been answered... My 2023 M135ix usually has 1 or 2 remote software update throughout the year for maps or the root software itself. Will this remove the changes I have made using the Apps; for info the car has iDrive 7? If yes, how do I reinstall them without using all the credits? Thank you.

I would contact support directly and ask the question
What I can say is that on the VAG Cars when they have some software updates (i would guess root software) then all the coding changes you have made will be lost.
The only way to get then reinstated is to use the apps again, same as if you turn a feature on and dont like it you have to pay to turn it off.
That I am afraid is how the one click apps work.

I get this is how the Apps works but you would think as the software knows what Apps you have already purchased there would be a “re-activate” feature for such instances.
This is where Bimmercode is a popular option for BMW. I get the OBD11 Audi model but not the current BMW setup. In the recent deals I purchased a bunch of credits to support the development of the software because I think it’s good. That said I’m certainly not going to keep repurchasing the same Apps. I’d rather make the shift to Bimmer.
As you suggest; I’ve asked the question to Edvinas, I’ll keep the thread updated if I find out more. 🤞

Yes the software has a history function so fully understands what apps you have used.
However the business model to my mind is now very much focused on one click apps that you have to pay to use each time.
They have just started rolling out Toyota and Lexus and I will bet money they only offer one click apps as well
Coding does not seem to be an option on the new manufacturers they are/will support but hopefully I will be proved wrong.

Yes I think the same model will be rolled out across as many manufacturers as they can, but you shouldn’t have to keep paying for the same App. My humble opinion is that is wrong, but what do I know. I would be very surprised if other users didn’t feel the same and vote with their wallets. Especially as a remote update by BMW is usually out of your control, the car just updates or they do it when the car has a service.

You are not alone in your thoughts, many users have complained about this before.

Yeah I can understand that. One way to make it a bit more fair for both sides could be; if you have purchased a subscription ie Pro you get the option to “re-activate” a previously purchased App. If however you have the free software option and have only purchased the OBD dongle then no “re-activate” option is available. Sounds good to me, but then it would I guess 😁

As promised to keep this thread updated… Had a reply from Edvinas re the original query; it seems likely a BMW software update could remove any changes an App makes to the modules. Regarding my suggestion of introducing a “re-activate” option for users who have purchased Apps and hold Pro / Ultimate subscriptions. Edvinas said there’s no information now but this feature will most likely be available in the future, which is great news to all. This addition would make OBD11 much more competitive when compared to its competition in the BMW arena. Thumbs up from me 👍

Thanks for the update, I am afraid I am a distrusting person where OBD11 are concerned as they say those words a lot and then other things come along.
But as it coming up to XMAS I will hope that this time i am wrong.

Do they, arrrgh that’s a shame. Well if their idea is to be number one then Bimmercode is the one to beat for BMW. Their offering is very very good, works out a lot cheaper and has no time limit or annual renewal. I’ve decided to buy it in the new year in the deals. Sadly I’m not a fan of the credit model especially if my tweaks get deleted by updates. Shame I do like the modern interface. This happened with my Audi as well, I tried OBD but for coding it’s too risky with limited help on the forums and no explanations in the coding for bytes and bits. I moved over to VCDS and the difference was huge.
Ah well we'll see where they go with it I guess.
