Does anyone know if it is possible to enable traffic sign recognition without module A5 in your car? I have what appears to be the correct camera behind the rear view mirror, but there is no module A5 when I look in the Control Units list. I even tried to force OBDeleven to try and talk to the A5 address, but was unable to communicate with the module. I do have a module 13, Adaptive Cruise Control, but not sure if that is related. Also - do only certain Mk7.5 / facelift cars actually have A5 camera modules? I have an option for front assist in the driver assistance menu, and it goes me warnings for front cross traffic (as well as the occasional false alarm). If I don't have an A5, what module would be doing that part? All of the TSR guides seem to assume you have something at address A5. My car is a NAR/USA 2019 GTI SE with DCC and Fender audio, if that helps. It's also Great Falls Green, which I assume doesn't help, but I just like to brag

The first step in addressing these questions is to post-up a copy of the SCAN report for this car. This will tell us how this car was factory built and its DNA. The way to do to digitize the SCAN darta is like this (if you use an iOS version of OBD11 software): - Fire-up OBD11 software - no need to plug-in the OBD11 dongle, or to connect to the car.
- On the Home screen, select Garage (it's on the lower left side of the screen)
- If you have registered multiple cars against your account - select the correct vehicle
- On the car information screen, select History
- Follow the screenshots below:
Once you receive the email that you sent to yourself in the last screenshot above - copy and paste the contents into a new post (as an attachment, if possible) Don
PS: if you are using Android version software - do this:

history.txt (335.38 KB) Sure, see attached. I had been messing with it but set everything back to how it was originally.

mike: thanks for the information - your attachment speaks volumes!!! So, with absolutely no offense intended - I suspect that the words in your first post " I have what appears to be the correct camera behind the rear view mirror" is a tad exaggerated!!
Your SCAN confirms that this car does NOT have a front facing camera (it's called R242 in VW's literature and it's identified as the module A5 by diagnostic devices like OBD11) My hunch is that you are confusing module A5 with the Rain-light-sensor - both are attached to the windshield in the area behind the rear-view mirror.
Module A5 looks like this: 1 in the picture is the actual front facing camera - but it's obscured by 2 which is a defogging mechanism (it's a heater) - 3 is the Rain-Light sensor. So, looking at the windshield from the car front, you should see the trapezoidal shaped heater if R242 is installed (which it is not in this car). However and as you have said - this car does have a front-facing radar. Your SCAN identifies this as 13 Adaptive Cruise Control. You should see this on the car as shown below (ignore the pin-out stuff):
The front-facing radar identifies things that move at the front of the car. Think about how Adaptive cruise control operates - it's really about identifying the speed of an object (a car in this case) in the front relative to your car's speed. This is really no different to identifying the speed of cross-flow traffic!
On the other hand, a front-facing camera when fitted identifies discrete objects (meaning that the camera can distinguish between objects) -so a very different capability! In TSR, the front-facing camera identifies traffic sings and it is able to "read" the speed-limit number. Clearly without this capability TSR isn't possible - alas!!

Can it be coded to show signs from navigation?
