As far as I learned on this forum, Light Assist is a Swap/FEC and it cannot be enabled with OBD11. But you can purchase the option from the shop; did this myself and it's working fine.

activation of automatic high beams via coding procedure please having led plus You're really not missing anything Mattiteo. I have it on My22 GTI. It's too sensitive for my liking. Driving home the other night, light rain, the high beams were going on and off as it was picking up reflections. It was annoying. The system also ended up flashing oncoming traffic 3 times trying to figure out the lighting. Passing car put his high beams on as he passed me. He wasn't happy. I'd like to turn it off lol

You can use "We Connect" Portal or mobile application (renamed Volkswagen few weeks ago) or use the "Shop" feature from the infotainment menu and look for "light assist"

Hello, does this apply to SE model USA? No, I don't think that the concept of purchasing software upgrades after the car has been put into service applies to North America (Canada & USA). I live in Canada, and have never heard of anyone in North America being able to buy the "Software as a Product" (SwaP) upgrades. The two importers, VW of Canada and VW of America, don't offer that program. You could confirm this by phoning VW of America customer service. Don't be disappointed that you can't get this feature. I had it on my 2015 Golf, and found it useful only ONCE in 9 years of ownership. That was when I was driving a long distance on an almost deserted highway in Northern Ontario. I have it on my 2024 GTI 'Performance' (equivalent to USA Autobahn) and I honestly doubt if I will ever make use of it. Michael

Hello, does this apply to SE model USA? No. USA doesn’t get WeConnect app or shop. This option is equipped all on a hardware and software level with coding. Not by swaps

Hello platterfoot There is an additional component needed, and that is a FEC (Feature Enabling Code) that is provided either at the factory when the vehicle is manufactured, or subsequently if retrofitted. The FEC is what enables certain software features to operate. Because North America does not participate in the post-purchase SWAP (Software as a Product) scheme for retrofits, the success or failure of retrofitting something such as Light Assist depends on hardware & software configuration - as you mentioned - and also on the vehicle having the necessary FEC (if applicable) present. SWAP is the process of buying an aftermarket upgrade, and an electronic FEC is what you get to enable the upgrade when you buy a SWAP. Think of a FEC as being an "electronic certificate" that VW provides that enables a feature. FECs may be present in North American cars (from the time they were built at the factory) even though the feature they enable is not present or active in the North American car. The OP hasn't specified what year his car is, or what the part number & revision status of the camera in the windshield is. He needs to first find out if the camera is of a type & revision level (both hardware & software revision) that supports Light Assist, then find out - probably from someone who has attempted this retrofit before - whether or not his year & model of vehicle has the necessary FEC enabled. There may be other hardware & software prerequisites as well, such as a certain hardware version or software load in other controllers in the car. I have seen discussions about this exact retrofit before in the various fora, so there is some info about versions, FEC presence, etc. out there. Michael
