Hey anyone know how to reset the passenger seat occupancy mat by obd 11?

hmmm...........I'm not quite sure what you mean!!
The "seat occupancy mat" (I assume that you mean the Seat occupied sensor) is just a 2 x pin peripheral that hangs off the Airbag module -so it doesn't have a reset function.
Maybe you mean the Seat occupied recognition control unit, on front passenger seat (it's called J706 in the wiring diagram)? If so - read HERE. The process is driven by the module itself - so it shouldn't matter which diagnostic device is used

Hi sorry about reviving this old post. Can the seat sensor be disabled via coding? I have an issue with the mat not working properly, so when somebody sits on the seat it keeps turning off/on the airbag. Would it be possible to turn the unit of and have the airbag on at all times instead of having the sensor 'sense' if somebody sits on it or not.

starsqream : Hi. As you will agree - tinkering with ANY part of the Air-bag system is prone to impact a fundamental aspect of the car's safety. Because of this, and as mentioned in my link, Audi severely restricts access to Air-bag components - particularly coding access! That said, there is an adaptation channel in the 15 - Airbag module with the name Airbag adaptations-Seat occupied recognition. However, whilst I'm not sure of the answer to your question - I would be very, very surprised if ANY third party diagnostic device (like OBD11) could be used to alter the factory setting of this channel (which is activated). And I suggest that you don't try!! Perhaps a better approach is to fix the cause of the problem, rather than focusing on avoiding the effect of the problem! To do this, maybe start by creating a SCAN of the car and understand EXACTLY what the error code is saying about the seat occupancy module. From your brief words regarding the intermittent nature of the fault - I suspect that it might be advantageous to check the module connections, see below

Thanks for the advice, I've checked the issue. The issue is that the sensor mat in the seat isn't working properly. Sometimes it senses the weight of the passenger and sometimes not. I've ordered a replacement and will have to open the seat to put it back. They've said I have to adapt the replacement, would that be possible with obd11 or do I need vcds for that? Thank you very much for the support.

starsqream : OK - when you say "the senor mat", I assume that you are referring to the Pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition - it's called G452
Here's a list of precautions from the VW repair manual when replacing G452
Additional safety instructions for repair work on seat occupied recognition for front passenger airbag:
- The seat occupied recognition control unit - J706- must always be reset (basic settings) after the front passenger seat has been repaired, for example when the seat cover has been “replaced” ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
- Take care that the pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition - G452- does not become kinked.
- The components of the seat recognition must not come into contact with grease.
- There is always a danger that the components of the seat recognition may be damaged by pointed or sharp objects when working on the seat. This risk must be avoided.
- The pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition - G452- must be positioned without creasing.
- During installation, care must be taken to install seat padding and seat cover in correct position. If there is a seat heating element, it must always be installed under the pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition -G452-
- Renew all padding clips of the cover. Ensure clips are correctly positioned on seat padding.
- The basic setting of the system is only possible between temperatures of 0°C and +40°C.
- Ensure that no object is on the seat before and/or during the basic settings.
- The use of additional items on the seat, such as cushions or similar, impairs the functioning of the seat occupied recognition system and can therefore prevent the airbag system from functioning correctly.
As noted in step I above, after replacement Basic setting procedures will need to be run from the 15 Air-bag module. There are 2 x Basic setting procedures required - I have translated these procedures below into OBD11 speak from the VCDS web site
15 Air bags module
Long-Code AirbagVW20 modules are Long Coded and configured online using the Factory Tool and Software Version Management (SVM). Coding documentation is NOT available in OBD11.
Replacement Airbag control modules will have Component Protection DTCs such as U1101 and U1100. Component Protection can only be learned/disabled using the Factory Tool in Combination with an online Connection.
Adaptation Used to deactivate individual airbag components (see repair manual for details).
Basic SettingIf the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) or the Pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition - G452- has been replaced, the 2 x basic setting procedures below must be performed. Prerequisites: - The vehicle is between 5° and 35°C (40° ~ 95°F).
- Battery voltage no less than 12.4 V.
- Passenger seat is empty and in normal position.
- Seat-belt must NOT be plugged in.
- No error messages in the system such as
- Component Protection,
- Control Module Faulty,
- Crash Data Stored,
- Control Module Not Coded, or
- Igniter faults
Procedure 1- From the Control Units screen select 15 Air bags module
- Scroll-down and select Basic settings
- Select Seat occupied recognition serial number
- When applicable, enter the single digit number 0 into the reserved box. If this is not present - skip this step
- Activate Basic setting - after the procedure displays "finished correctly", stop
Procedure 1 is completed - Proceed directly to Procedure 2
Procedure 2
- In Basic settings, select Resetting seat occupied recognition.
- When applicable, enter the single digit number 0 into the reserved box. If this is not present - skip this step
- Activate Basic setting - after the procedure displays "finished correctly", stop
Procedure 2 is completed - exit OBD11 software
Note: A security code will be required to undertake these Basic setting procedures. The VCDS webpage simply says "Enter the Basic Settings Enabling (Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module) code shown in the pop-up balloon to enable the basic setting". I'm not sure if OBD11 will suggest the correct security code as part of its software and I'm not aware of the correct security code (alas)
