Hi All
i have a FL 2017 S3 and want to code out the annoying coast feature were it selects higher gears while off the throttle on roundabouts .
Gateway module 19- long coding FPA function freilauf default ON change value to not active has been mentioned on another forum ?
Is this what i need to to ? im not a frequent user of my obd11 and i think its licence may of expired as i had loads of credits but it wont do anything with the car .
My car has the 7 speed 381 gearbox i believe
Thanks I advance

lengster : Hi. Hmm............ not sure if I totally understand your words - but the FPA function freilauf tweak is an ON/OFF software switch for VAG's "Coasting" function (sometimes also called "sailing"). This feature is a powertrain technology designed to help improve the car's emission levels. Coasting works when the driver lifts off the accelerator in a conventional fuel-injected car, the fuel supply to the engine is typically shut off - or greatly reduced - and engine braking will begin to slow the car. No fuel is used but the car's deceleration will, in many cases, require that the driver soon begin accelerating and burning fuel again.
So -the Coasting function sounds a tad different to your description of a "feature were it selects higher gears while off the throttle on roundabouts"..
I'm not sure if you are talking about the tendency for the DSG gearbox to over-rev in 2nd/3rd gear - maybe supply more words about the problem that you are attempting to fix. Or, perhaps just try making the long-code change and see if it fixes your problem - it's a very simple tweak, so easy to revert back to factory setting !

Sorry for jumping on the thread. Don, you mentioned tendency of DSG gearbox to overrev in 2nd/3rd gear. That is exactly what is happening on my car also, gearbox is DQ381.
Is that something that can be changed by some adaptation and coding?
To remind, car is A3 8V 2018.

My use of "over-rev" is probably not the correct term - better to say that there is sometimes a rev mismatch when gear changing on DSG transmissions.
In my experience, it only occurs when the transmission decides to downshift - but it doesn't always happen (I'm not sure of the exact conditions that enforce the behavior). I've been aware of this "feature" on the MQB platform cars that I've owned which have all had DQ200 gearboxes- these are 7 x speed transmissions with dry clutches. Your DQ381 gearbox is also 7 x speed, but it uses wet clutch technology.
My understanding from past forum discussions is that the phenomenon is not uncommon on MQB platform vehicles - but I must admit that for me, it has been more of an interesting observation when it occurs, rather than being a problem that actually needs fixing!! Meaning that it hasn't been a worry - so I've not taken a big interest in finding a solution!
I recall suggestions referring to resetting the gearbox learning algorithm as a possible remedy- but I'm not sure if this is a proven fix (as I have said, I don't see this to be a problem that needs fixing)!

Aha, ok than. On my car I literally notice over-revs when gearbox is shifting from 2nd to 3rd. It almost always shift somewhere around or above 2000 rpm, even when light on a throttle and in Drive mode. On other gears it shifts earlier.
Also often there is some clunky change when the car downshifts to 3rd gear. That is similar to that miss-match which you described.
Online I have read that this is very common for DQ381 transmission, apparently gearbox is learning the driver behaviour and often when driving in city it is necessary to give more throttle in 2nd gear.
Someone said that with the software when you delete "adaptations" from the gearbox it "fixes"this behaviour. I did not did this since software gives some warning doing it, so I did not proceeded. I only done "basic setting" of transmission but it did not changed anything.
And yeah, this also cannot be described as a problem, but sometimes this over-reving is noticeable and unnecessary.
I owned I car with DQ200 transmission, and what I remember about it is some clunky changes in lower gears. DQ381 should be better transmission since it is also installed in S3 cars.

hmm......... with the caveat that I have no idea if it works - but because it's any easy non-OBD11 procedure, maybe try this:

I tried and it did nothing. Maybe it only works on older models.
