Hey guys, I would like to activate the feature of an automatic mirror drop when the reverse gear is selected. I already tried some things but it didn't seemed to work. I don't have memory functions or electronic folding mirrors. But it should work without that, right? Since physically everything that is required is the electronic mirror control (which is basic equipment).
Let me hear your thoughts

You need to turn the knob to changed the adjustment of the mirror to the side of the mirror you want to have dipping. Then when you engage reverse, the mirror will dip, at least that works for me.

xcptnflg : Hmm..... I don't have a mk8 in the garage at the moment - but my understanding is that the passenger-side door module (which lives @ address hex52 on the CAN network) has the same 11 x Byte long-code string as the previous Golf mk7. This being the case, I suspect that the tweak is the same for both model Golfs The particular coding changes are:
09 Central electrics module - Adaptation Spiegelverstellung
- Spiegelabsenkung_bei_Rueckwaertsfahrt > active
- Menuesteuerung_Spiegelabsenkung > active (check this setting, likely it will be already set - this channel includes a switch in the MENU that enables/disables the mirror-dip function - make sure that the switch is activated in MENU)
52 Passenger Door module - long-code
- Byte 4, Bit 2=1 and Bit 3 =1
BUT (yes, there is always a "but") - the mirror-dip on reverse gear function needs to have a memory facility to store the starting position of the mirror - so the mirror can return to the correct position after the car moves forward. This facility is a discrete memory module that is physically installed in the mirror housing. As many mk7 users have found to their chagrin- - if the car doesn't have a memory module in the passenger-side mirror, making the coding changes results either in the tweak not working at all, or the mirror doesn't return to the correct position!
So, I suggest that you conduct the memory module test before making any coding changes - the way to check if the memory module is installed is like this:
Note: the X/Y position value can be different to the value shown in my picture (it depends on the actual mirror position when the test is undertaken) - however, the value can NOT be 255)
