Hi All,
I just did the light and rain sensor retrofit. I replaced the light sensor itself in addition to the switch next to the steering wheel. Did not replace any wiring looms as there already was what I believe is the humidity sensor (not sure, but there definitely was a sensor there that was plugged in, which I replaced).
Part #: Sensor: 8U0 955 559 B Light switch: 8V0 941 531 AE
I did not want to risk messing anything up, so I went ahead and ran the retrofit APP for the CH/LH retrofit, I did not do any long coding.
Current situation: it seems that the light does go at the moment when the switch is set to AUTO. It is dark now so I’ll have to wait until the morning to see how it behaves in daylight.
Problem 1: I’m getting a “Vehicle Lights: system fault” error message when the switch is set to AUTO (while the lights are in fact on). This error message goes away when I move the light switch to ON.
Problem 2: I’ve run all possible APPs to activate the CH/LH function, and it still does not work at all. No lights when locking or unlocking the car.
If any screenshots of the adaptations or long coding are needed, please let me know what is needed and I’ll post it.
Would appreciate the help!

So, first - you need to tell the central electrics module that you have installed both the sensor and the new switch with AUTO position. To do this, follow the instructions below:
- Select Central electrics module (@ address hex09)
- Select security access
- Enter the magic number 31347
- Select Adaptation
- Search for Assistance light functions
- Select Regen_Lichtsensor
- Set to LIN_REGEN_LICHT_SENSOR
- Go back to Adaptation
- Search for Außenlicht_uebergreifend
- Select LDS_mit_AFL
- Set to yes

Okay, so I tried this;
- Under “Assistance Light Functions”, “Regen_Lichtsensor” isn’t available in the list. Only thing “Regen” related is “Assistenzfahrlicht bei Regen”
- When searching for “Außenlicht_uebergreifend”, it doesn’t exist at all in the list.
I double checked, I am definitely in the “Adaptations” area of the Central Electrics module.
Thank you for the help!

hmm........ OK - my bad. I incorrectly assumed that this car has a newer style central electrics module that doesn't have an active long-code string. But of course this car is pre-2016 - so the hex09 module does have a long-code!!

No worries!
Is there still a way for me to long-code this? Could you help me out with that? I know nothing about long-coding.
Also, isn’t the light sensor retrofit app supposed to do this for me? Did I basically waste 50 credits on nothing?
Thanks!

hmm...... I don't know what the APP does!! I never use these Apps and I suggest that no one else uses them - they are risky because they make undisclosed changes to the car's coding.
Do this :
Notes: - The screenshots below are from an old post using now obsolete OBD11 software - but it's the same for the current software
- The yellow entries on the right-side of the screenshots are my addition - they won't appear on your screens
Go to the Central electrics module - then choose Coding. If you get the Byte/Bit screen (with tick boxes) - press the 0/1 symbol (to the left of the circled "?") on the upper right-side of the screen
To register the new Rain/Light sensor - scroll down to Regen_Lichtsensor and change to setting shown. This change sets Byte 6, Bit 1) To register the new rotary light switch - scroll to the LDS entries and change to the value of LDS_mit_AFL to Yes (the entry below the yellow box). This change sets Byte 7, Bit 5

Hi Don,
The above guidance worked perfectly. All is good now. Thank you so much! Lights are automatic, CH/LH works, and the menu for auto lights is visible in the MMI.
FYI: OBD11 on the iPhone looks quite different now. It doesn’t even have the “0/1” option to tap. The long coding area is divided into 3 pages, one of which is the Byte/Bit page with the checkmarks.
Thank you!!

Hi Don,
So all is working well with this retrofit. However, the CH/LH feature is activating at all times of day no matter how light or dark it is out. How can I set it to trigger at the same light threshold that triggers the headlights?
Thank you!

shahwant96 : The adaptation channel that tells the central electrics module at what light level the CH/LH function operates is:
- Light sensor-Einschaltgrenze_CHO_LHO (which translates to "Light sensor switch-on limit_CHO_LHO")
The default setting is 600 lux

Hi Don,
Could you please provide the exact path? I can’t seem to find that specific channel under any of the adaptation menus, or in the long coding list. A reminder that this is a PFL 2014 A3.
Thank you!

shahwant96 : hmm......... OK - if this is a MY14 vehicle, it will probably have the older style central-electrics module. Alas, these earlier modules didn't bring-out the CH/LH threshold levels as a specific adaptation channel. In these earlier modules - this setting was hidden in the module firmware (called "dataset') - meaning that It can not be accessed with OBD11! Don
