My MIB2, over the last couple of weeks, has developed some really odd behaviour.

It's a MIB2 Discover Media, made by Delphi. It was fitted to the car in May 2021 with an 8" Discover Pro Display and has worked perfectly, ever since.

The first issue it gave me was about 3-4 weeks ago, when the LED on the display itself failed to light when the unit was powered on. This resolved itself while I was driving and has not happened again.

In the weeks that followed, it has started doing some even stranger things..

The behaviour starts with the message to tell me that Park Pilot is not available - then it prompts me about removing my phone from the car. After this, the MIB turns off. Although the unit turns on again immediately (by pressing the power button) when it comes on again, the following things do not work:

Steering wheel controls (for media - the controls for the dashboard display itself continue to function as normal)
The compass for the Sat Nav disappears from the dashboard display
The Park Pilot does not appear on the display when the car is placed in reverse (nor does the button for enabling this manually, by the gear shifter, work)
The driving mode selector button does not work.

Owed to how erratic the behaviour is and the fact that the only thing which has changed since this started is the OS on my iPhone (I'm running the iOS 17 beta on an iPhone 14 Pro) and I'm always using CarPlay, I initially put this down to a bug in the phone which was causing the car to behave oddly. However, I ran a couple of scans on it - first on Monday and then this evening, after I got home from work - and not only is the car littered with faults across the 5F, Gateway, Dashboard and Central Electrics, when I ran the scan tonight the 5F failed to show at all.

From tonight's scan, I can see that the Dashboard is reporting a U111000 (Function restriction due to communication interruption) and, from the scan I did on Monday (where the 5F unit was showing) there are 26 faults and one of them is U112100 (Database missing message).

I've not been able to find anything that points to what this might be - other than some kind of hardware fault between either (possibly) the MIB, the CAN Gateway or perhaps the Dashboard? Nothing has changed within the car in years - not since I did the original MIB swap to the MIB2 that's in it now - so a change to the car itself cannot be responsible for this.

Does anyone have any ideas, before I splash out on a new MIB and get someone to activate it within the car for me?

Please post-up a copy of the SCANs - so we can see the actual fault details. If you aren't aware of how to digitize the SCAN data - do this:

start OBD11 software - no need to connect to the car
On the Home screen, select Garage tab (bottom left)
Select the car if you have multiple vehicles registered to your account
scroll-down the options and select History
Follow the screenshots below:

Here are the scans which have been done on the car since last Saturday.

Ignore the one about incorrect coding on the 5F - that's always been there, since the unit was fitted to the car and I've never been able to figure out what's incorrect that's causing it. It's most likely not related to the issues it's causing me now. I also have a bulb out in one of the front headlamps which I've not had a chance to replace yet.

hmm............ there are 3 x "Full SCAN"s in your post - but the 5F module is only reported in ONE. I assume that these reports have not been edited! Where was the MIB sourced in May 2021 and how was it installed (I note that the SCANs don't have Component Protection errors)

The problem is that ALL the errors on the 5F module are of a general (non specific) type = so it's not clear what's causing the errors. Has there been any coding changes made (look at History again)?

Maybe post-up a copy of the long-code string on the 5F module

The MIB has been fitted to the car "properly" - the car was connected to FAZIT with the MIB installed, where it was then activated against the CAN gateway. This is why there are no Component Protection faults in the scans; it's a Delphi unit and (from my understanding) the Delphi units (unlike their Technicast counterparts) are much harder to crack the Component Protection on, in comparison to fitting them to the car correctly.

The coding on the car hasn't been touched in years - there's been little to no need to make any changes to it as there has been nothing else added to the car since this was fitted to it. The last time it was modified, I was attempting to change the skin from the blue "sport" one (associated with the Golf R) to the red one (from the GTI) as this has always been wrong on the unit and I've never bothered to change it. I didn't have long and didn't get it fixed but the unit was fine after this until a month or so ago, when this trouble started.
