Hi all. ID.3 owner for the last 4 weeks! Purchased new and car came with 3.2 installed.
Anyways, plugged in by OBDeleven dongle, ran the iOS app, and it came back with 13 errors!
Should I clear those errors? Will the dealer know I've cleared them? Will it affect my warranty?
Thanks.

Hi, no, don't erase errors, they're probably sporadic faults more often than not! A sporadic fault is nothing, it's just that it didn't work for a few seconds and then it came back. This can help technicians troubleshoot a faulty module. And no, they won't see that you've erased the faults, unless you look hard enough to blame yourself later.

PieD3 : Hi id .3 makes some good points - but let me invite that you consider a less directive approach. I reckon that whether, or not you clear errors really depends on the nature of the fault. First as already advised, clearing faults doesn't affect warranty and yes also - if you take your car to a dealer, it's important that the mechanic has access to the fault information. However, if you clear the faults with OBD11, yes the data is removed from the car's module memory - but it is NOT totally erased. OBD11 keeps a copy of ALL the SCAN reports that you make in their remote servers on the OBD11 mother-ship. This information is kept against your account and it can be accessed using the History function. See my instructions below. This means that regardless of your decision to clear faults (or not) - a copy the original error details can be printed and given to a dealer
So, again I reckon the decision to erase depends on the fault details. As a suggestion, my advice is to make sure that you have enabled Freeze Frame - see HERE. Freeze data provides additional important information that is very useful in informing a review by either a mechanic, or by a OBD11 user. For example - this is an example of a fault with Freeze-frame enabled: U101400 - Control module incorrectly coded static Priority - 2 Malfunction frequency counter - 1 Unlearning counter - 134 km-Mileage - 33760 km Terminal 15 status - On Terminal 50 status - Off Voltage - 12.4 V Outside air temperature - 15.5 °C Status Bremslichtschalter (HW) - Off Status Bremslichtschalter (CAN) - Off Off - operated Parking light - not activated Automatic high beam assist - not activated Low beam - not activated Parking light left - not activated Parking light right - not activated Letzte Weckursache/ Werte [00;2E] - keine Störschutzursache CAN-Bus aktiv - On date - 2023-05-06 01:29:38
I don't want to make this reply a master-class in diagnosing faults - but here are some points to note regarding the data above: - Priority - this is VW's assessment of the importance of the fault based on a 8 x category scale. A small priority number = the more immediate importance
- Static - this describes the status of the fault . In this case, the error is NOT intermittent
- Date - this is the date/time when the fault was first registered in the module's error memory.
- Fault Frequency - this is the number of occasions that the same error has been re-registered since the Date on a subsequent ignition cycle
- Unlearning counter - this is the number of subsequent ignition cycles that must happen without the same error occurring for the fault to be self cleared by the module
So, again as an example - if any of the 13 faults on this car had a Date that was in the distant past, and Fault frequency was low - it can be cleared because it is an "aged" fault that no longer occurs Don
PS: this is how to access and digitize old SCAN data from the History data in your account: - Fire-up OBD11 software - no need to connect to the dongle
- On the Home screen - select Garage (bottom-left)
- If you have registered multiple vehicles to your account - select the car
- Scroll-down the car-information screen and select History
- Follow the steps below (after receiving the email that you sent to yourself - print the contents):

Hi everyone. Thanks to you dv52 (Australia), for the details and the instructions on the history and how to read the errors! It's really nice to see answers down to the last detail! Thank you very much.

Thanks both for your replies.
I think I'll leave well enough alone. The car is going in for a diagnostic check in a few weeks, so I'll let them have a look.
