Heya,
Got my first car a few months ago, 2012 gti! So much fun! Except... its 11 years old and yeah it shows. I got a "AFS Failure! Check owners manual" error on the MFI and spent so much time looking in to it. Most of what I found online was to replace bulbs or check the level sensor, but mine were fine. Since I'm on a college student cheapo internship budget, I can't afford expensive things to fix my car, yet. I bought the white obdeleven thingamabob to help me find the issue.
After scanning, I got 5 codes related to AFS:
-02234 Right Headlight Power Output Stage no signal/communication
-01042 Control module not coded
-02656 Power Output Stage for Left Headlight not coded
-02557 Power Output Stage for Right Headlight not coded
-01539 Headlights not adjusted no or incorrect basic setting/adaptation
As I understand, the first one is only the problem and the others are dependent on that.
After some research I determined it was necessary to take apart the bumper and remove the headlight to look at the Power Output Stage (5M0907391) and its connections. I found no loose connections, no corrosion, no excessive dirt or damage. But, on the Headlight Control Module (4H0907472F) there was some rust, corrosion, and debris build up. When I bought the car I didn't think much of a headlight dust cover cap not being there.... smh!
I purchased a dust cover cap and am ready to buy a replacement control module but have some questions.
Does this seem like the right part to replace?
If I buy a control module does it need to be coded to work with my car? Can that coding be done with obdeleven? On the white obdeleven?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
